Lynner's Wedding

Postby lynners on Sat Dec 24, 2011 3:31 am

Well, as you know already, Mike and I are engaged!

I adore my ring - it's not what I had pictured but I do really, really like it, and for a guy who went totally by himself, with no input from friends or family, he did a really good job.

It's hard to get a good picture of it with my iPhone (especially at night), but here goes...

Image

It's a set, and the wedding band entwines with it with a diamond on either side of the center diamonds.

We've set a tentative date of February 23rd, 2013, and it will be in BC on Vancouver Island. Where exactly has yet to be determined! We're struggling to find a nice place that will hold enough people, as we're looking at a guest list of 160 people with around 110-120 likely attending. We did really like the look of one hotel in Campbell River - and Mike still has his heart set on it - but it's just too far away from home (about an hour and 20 minute drive). I couldn't spend the night before at my parent's home, couldn't have pictures in their backyard, couldn't have the rehearsal dinner here...so we'll see.

Our colours are going to simply be navy and some lighter version of blue. We don't have any other details ironed out yet because it's still a long way away - but necessary to give family and friends from Ontario plenty of time to plan their time.

My mom is far more excited and stressed about all of this than I am - but I'm sure I'll get there!

Edit to add: I'm also working on losing some weight, so the long engagement is nice. I've never been this big before, and I don't feel good about it. Dress shopping seems dreadful, let along standing up in front of a whole whack of people. So far since the engagement I've lost 2.5 lbs - not a lot, but it's a start!

Lynners, your ring is stunning and I love shades of blue for your colors. I cant wait to see pictures of your dress and flowers.
I am sure, by the time the date arrives, you will be just the size you wish to be. Don't try to take it off too rapidly since it just comes back on. Slowly and steadily is the best. One or two pounds a week is ideal weight loss.

Lynners the ring is beautiful! Mike picked out a very nice one and by himself is impressive. I love the colors, so nice for a Winter Wedding, sending my part of the force for a very nice day. The plans sound really nice.

Sher is right about the weight loss, I have dropped 15 since Niagara by cutting way down on snacks, increasing my activity level and doing gym classes, not just the weights. I have done it slowly and it seems to be working, hope you can make your goal. If not, don't stress over it, it's not worth it.

Lynners, Your ring is gorgeous, Mike did a great job picking it out!

And, I have to ask, will Tassy be in the wedding party? I love the idea of including pets in the ceremony.
All your plans WILL come together. Those bridezillas who demand the perfect wedding are so silly, and I'm absolutely sure you aren't going to be one of them. Nothing is ever perfect, so go with the flow...let everyone else stress out over it...LOL!

Lynners, Mike has excellent taste in jewellery! I love the Princess Cut centre stones, flanked by the channel set diamonds. I can't wait to see the set together. I'm glad you not a "wreck" about wedding plans. RJM is so right about it all. Enjoy the day for exactly what it is; two people in love promising to spend eternity with one another. :D :P

I'm so excited for you, I have "perma grin". The colours are my favourite so you can't go wrong there. Don't be too hard on yourself about your weight. Some Brides put themselves in an impossible situation. You are beautiful just as you are, so do whatever you want, but just don't stress it!

It sounds like your Mum is over the moon with excitement and that's lovely. She'll be a huge asset for you, since you will have to do a lot of planning from Ontario. I'm glad you've set the date well in advance to give us DP'ers a chance to make arrangements. Imagine a DP table at your wedding?! :?

I too was wondering about sweet Tassy. Mind you, that would require shipping her to BC and back so there are a lot of logistics involved. Just keep updating us with plans as you go as I am enjoying hearing about them.

Merry Christmas Angel!

Lynners - your ring is gorgeous! Mark did do a fab job picking it out with no help. My dad was supposed to have mum's engagement ring sorted a few years after they married twenty years ago (it broke somehow) and she just got her ring a couple of years ago! And she had to pick it! Lmao

The colours sound really nice too. I love blues, so I bet everything will be beautiful..

And weight loss or no, I'm also certain you'll look absolutely fantastic on the big day! Maybe the lack of excitement and nervousness right now is simply because it's a long engagement XD At least it gives you plenty of time to do things at a steady and controlled pace so there's reduced stress in the whole arranging of the wedding!

I'm happy for you! :D

Oh! Your ring is beautiful!! He did good 8)

I can't wait to hear more about your wedding plans as they progress. I'm so excited for you!

And I understand your concern about the weight, we are all picky about how we look. But I do have to tell you, I think you're beautiful just the way you are. You will be a beautiful bride!

So it's been awhile...but we're plodding along with our wedding plans!

Phyrie requested to see a photo, but...I'll just give you a link to the dress because the skinny model does a much better job in showing it off, haha!

But really what I mean is that the sample was a size too big, and the loops for the corset back were broken so the pictures I have aren't that good of a representation of the dress. Sooo...look here!

I know I'm not supposed to post links...sorry mods!

Link, schmlink!! It's GORGEOUS!! I LOVE that it has the wider shoulder straps, and that train!! OMG! That model's boobs aren't big enough for that dress, but you are going to look STUNNING in it!!

I was just looking at your rings, and I am pretty sure mine are close to the same. Do yours look like this?:

Almost exactly, Phyrie. Mine is white gold, though, and instead of a round center diamond, it has a "cluster" of 4 little tiny square diamonds that make up a bigger square.

They had one in white gold too (at a lesser price!) which I told Paul I would take, but he knew I prefer yellow gold, so we went with the larger diamond! It is amazing that we have the (almost) same rings! I love the way the wedding band wraps around the engagement ring. It's just so clever, and you don't have to worry about them spinning! The rings I lost had had to be soldered together to keep them from spinning, and this design can't do that! :-D

I just love mine, and I know you will love yours too!

Ashley, I had a huge long message typed and then Elliot "helped" me while I checked the spelling on a word, and poof!

I just love your Gown! It is absolutely beautiful, and so refreshing to see one that isn't Strapless, not that there's anything wrong with that. I think your Dress will highlight your assets, such as your "decolltage" (sp?...not trying to look it up again) which is what a Wedding Dress should do.

What are you planning for your hair/head piece/veil? You could even have a wrap or pashmina made out of Tulle to go around your arms (not shoulders) if the evening is cooler. :D

I am so very excited for you! You are going to look so gorgeous in that Gown. It is very, very pretty!!!

Next, we want to hear about the Flowers! 8)

Thanks everyone! I'm so happy with it. It's so much closer to what I had been imagining - there were some dresses that were more structured and more flattering, but they just weren't "me".

I am 99% sure that my bridesmaids are going to wear this dress:
Image

And I want all of the girls (including me) to have this umbrella - it will be February in BC, there will be rain!:
Image

For my hair, I'm thinking something like this. I definitely want an "up-do" because my hair has a terrible habit of going frizzy.
Image

And I'd like a little hair pin, along the lines of this:

Our centerpieces, as well as bridesmaid bouquets, are going to mainly be white ranunculus.

My bouquet is going to be made from vintage brooches!
