Doll Collecting

A question I have thought about asking everyone and anyone...Are there doll collectors in this DP world? I am a collector and am curious. Fondly, Liz

No dolls, I collect piggies. My mom used to collect dolls, now she's taken up quilting...LOL!

What type of dolls do you collect, Liz?
Her collection was china dolls, she had quite a few of the life-like babies, they were pretty amazing.

Hi RJM, hope you and your family, canine too, are all well. We are fine, just fighting the effects of pollen. I collect modern dolls. I have just a few porcelain mostly vinyl and many resin. I have a great collection of cowgirls, these are small, from six inches up to 18 inches, all different kinds, Madame Alexander, Ginny, Robert Tonner dolls, Adora, Helen Kish (a fav artist of mine) and Teri Lee, who was from the '50's. This is just a small part of the collection, it is addicting. I started about 1991, after my mother passed away. She had saved some of our dolls and it kind of took off from there. Liz

Liz, I had a Madam Alexander doll, (from Thailand) growing up. I was never really into dolls, except Barbie as I loved the accessories. However, I went to school with a girl who had an amazing collection.

I do have a secret love and that's for Doll Houses! I don't have one, but I've always wanted an old Victorian Doll House, or three.

Ironically, like RJM, I have been collecting all things Pig for more than 25 years now. I have a Pig Door Stop, a limited Pig Baker, signed and numbered, and a Pig Chef wearing an apron that says "Eat Beef", along with a leather Gout Stool, named Henry that is 50 years old now. RJM and I have many Pig Things.

You should take some photos of your dolls. Somewhere I still have a few that belonged to my Aunt who was tragically killed in a car accident when I was only 3 or 4. They are old English dolls. I've always treasured those.

My sister loved dolls. She had a larger Madam Alexander, I believe, named "Puddin'" that travelled Europe with us as children. She would say "Mama" when turned over, as well as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy that she just loved as a wee girl. ♥

I think it's so sweet that you collect Dolls. :D

Liz, My mom had so many dolls, she turned my sister's old bedroom into the "Doll Room". There were dolls on the bed, the shelves, the dressers, and the closet was full too! She had one old china doll that had teeth, she was rather scary and my Dad always kept the door shut, to what he called, The Creepy Doll Room. LOL!!!

Yes, what Deb said...I would enjoy seeing photos of your collection.

I too would love to see pictures of your dolls. I have never been a doll gal, mostly grew up as a Tomboy. I collect Roosters, Angels and all things Country, as well as a few living creatures!

Deb and RJM, your posts made me laugh, especially "the creepy doll" room. Most of my dolls are in the guest room and I have had a few guests, both male and female, child and adult, who have commented on "being looked at all night". I laugh!!! It is one way to keep away unwanted overnighters, only kidding!!! Love the company and so do the dogs. The dogs are fascinated with that room as the door is always closed so when they slip in it is like being in the secret garden. Especially the little guy as he is an "under the bed Mom can't get me" rascal. He really cracks us up with his antics both Scott and I get to laugh quite frequently. See how everything turns back to the dogs? Daisy is great and deals with the very jealous brother very well, she is my sweet girl.

I have many photos of the dolls, I will give it a shot uploading them. I am presently awaiting the delivery of two new dolls. Bad Liz!

RJM, that is funny about the "Creepy Doll Room"! I saw a clip, as I didn't watch the show, on Obsessions and this couple literally thought of these dolls as their children.

I already can tell that Liz, while enjoying her collection, is not that way. :D

Liz, I'm sure the dogs are very funny in that room, and what a great idea to keep House Guests to a minimum!!! I should create a "Pig Room" and do the same. I'm sure Daisy and Buddy feel very privileged to be in there, and how adorable that Buddy hides in hopes of staying longer in the "Forbidden Room". 8) That's so funny!!!

Do post pictures! I've seen some beautiful collections, and I would love to see yours. It's funny how Barbie never counts as a Doll with collectors, and I don't have one to this day, but I still have my Aunt's dolls, and they are treasures to me.

Years ago, my Mum was given a Porcelain Doll, that would have been from Victorian times. Her Mother had kept safe and guarded this Doll for years, throughout WWII, and finally gave it to my Mum when she was just a child. Being the youngest, and a total Tomboy, my Mum promptly took it to the shed and smashed its face!!!! She was a very naughty child, and to this day regrets the hurt feelings she inflicted on her Mum. That is why she protected her older sister's dolls for years and ultimately gave them to me. Once again, a very long story for no real reason...

Liz, do share your Doll Collection with us please!

Liz, I would be very honored to see your collection of dolls. I have always loved dolls and have a very small collection of them but I treasure them and am always interested in seeing what others have.

Most of us do collect something, if it is dolls, coins, stamps, angels or whatever and it is a wonderful hobby.

Deb, I love your dollhouses and would love to have an elegant dollhouse just to play with. We never get too old to play.

Do we have the same mom???? My mom has turned one of the bedrooms in her house into the doll room too! She has some fantastic dolls though. The real looking babies startle me every time I walk in there, they look so real!

Liz I would love to see some of your collection also. I don't collect dolls, but have collected many other things over the years. My MIL has a huge Barbie collection and they are all behind glass where they can't be touched by little grand and great grand hands
