What's my puppy mixed with?

Postby Sspear48 on Fri Jan 04, 2013 11:41 pm

I recently adopted an australian shepherd mix jax. He is 7 months old and 53 pounds. He has been a very good dog so far but I don't really no much about dogs. He is my first pet and was wondering what he could be mixed with pictures available to view, are they good family dogs and why he will not let anyone approach him or come near him and won't go near anybody but my son and I. Is this normal and will he change as he gets older? Also I'm hoping to have a protective guard dog. Does anybody know if this breed is protective?

There are several different breeds in there, I do see Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd and a few other breeds.

You most likely know nothing about his past and when he was separated from his mom and littermates. I adopted my Dixie at 8 months and she was a GSD/Aussie mix. She was a little shy at first and then came around nicely. We took her with us, introduced her to people and she loved kids. She came out of her shell, but we never forced her. We made every experience with people positive and enjoyable.

Congrats on your pup, he is very handsome.

We have an Aussie/Golden Retriever mix. She has always been shy around strangers, but very loyal to her family. As she has gotten older she seems to tolerate more being around people she doesn't know, but on our vet's advice we have never forced the issue. Just let your dog make the first move, the more you bring her around people, the better she will become. We started taking our dog to a park nearby and walking her at least 3-4 times a week in addition to the routine walk. At first, she was very shy and timid, and now, while she doesn't approach anyone, she does not shy away from people. Aussies are extremely loyal to their owners, and family...ours is truly a " velcro dog" ---she's stays with us at all times when we are home.Just give it some time, she will work out fine.
