TO ALL THOSE WHO RESCUE DOGS

RESCUE POEM"

Arlene Pace
September 18, 1998

Once I was a lonely dog,
Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or a gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice
So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.
No one again will hurt you
Was whispered in my ear.
You?ll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear
You will be dry, you will be warm,
you?ll have enough to eat
And rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet.
I was afraid I must admit,
I?ve lived so long in fear.
I can?t remember when I let
A human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me ?bout the rescue group
And what it meant to her.
She said, We are a circle,
A line that never ends.
And in the center there is you
protected by new friends.

And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
after you?ve been found.
And all the other folk
are searching near and far.
To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star.
She said, There is a family,
that?s waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we?ll find them,
just you wait and see.
And then they?ll join our circle
they?ll help to make it grow,
so there?ll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go.
I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
Today?s the day I thought,
my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
It wasn?t meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.

I could tell they felt it too.
for a special dog like you.
Now every night I say a prayer
to all the Gods that be.
Thank you for the life I live
and all you?ve given me.
But most of all protect the dogs
in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet.
"Whoever said you cannot buy happiness forgot about little puppies."

Just so appropriate for a rescue.

Postby gary on Wed Dec 05, 2007 3:44 pm

I hope no one minds me posting this here.
I just thought it wonderful words that says it all about rescue dogs.

Rescue Me
Rescue me not only with your hands but with your heart as well.
I will respond to you.
Rescue me not out of pity but out of love.
I will love you back.
Rescue me not with self-righteousness but with compassion.
I will learn what you teach.
Rescue me not because of my past but because of my future.
I will relax and enjoy.
Rescue me not simply to save me but to give me a new life.
I will appreciate your gift.
Rescue me not only with a firm hand but with tolerance and patience.
I will please you.
Rescue me not only because of who I am but who I'm to become.
I will grow and mature.
Rescue me not to revere yourself to others but because you want me.
I will never let you down.
Rescue me not with a hidden agenda but with a desire to teach me to trust.
I will be loyal and true.
Rescue me not to be chained or to fight but to be your companion.
I will stand by your side.
Rescue me not to replace one you've lost but to soothe your spirit.
I will cherish you.
Rescue me not to be your pet but to be your friend.
I will give you unconditional love.

I don know who wrote that, but I think that it says an awful lot about what rescue is about.

Wet nose from Faith Dalmatian.

That really is so beautiful! I love it! If my husband would allow me 4 dogs, I would go looking now for a rescue, but since I have 2 and am getting my third this spring, well. But great sentiment!
I love my dogs, they keep me focused!

It is really beautiful. I am a foster mom and have 2 cats, a dog and a bird that is mine. I am fostering my 5th dog and it is such a rewarding experience. Don't get me wrong it is hard work and we rehabilitate at the same time. We take the high risk dogs and ones with special needs. I will forward this to my rescue team.
We can change the world

Big smiles to you Sasafras56.
As anyone who knows me will tell you I have a pair of rescues
and love them dearly.
I get involved with local rescues as much as I can in the form of events for fund raising.

My little Dally took the title of rescue dog of the year,
at Singleton dog show last year.
And my Cross Border Collie, well he is in the top Six out of over One Hundred dogs, at our local Dog training club, he is just a star
performer at obedience based on working trials. This boy puts to shame some of the Pedigrees in class.

I guess what I am saying is, you can achieve almost anything with a rescue with the right commitment.

I was looking at the classifieds today on myspace. Until now I didn't even know that myspace had classifieds. Well anyway I always look at the pet section anytime I ever get a news paper. Well while I was scrolling through the classifieds. I noticed that there were an extreme amount of cats and dogs listed from pet finder. All of them were in a rescue. I own six dachshunds myself, and love them all as my children. I could never imagine any of them to be put in a shelter. I then saw this very huge dog in a shelter very close to where I live. His big eyes spoke to me some how, and then noticed that he was the breed that my husband has dreamed of having since he was a child. Well he is half of the breed anyway. I jumped out of my chair and ran outside to where my husband was working on his truck, and told him he must come see something. He said what I am busy. Then I said you won't believe what I have found. He said what? I said an Irish Wolf Hound is at a nearby shelter up for adoption. He said you are kidding me right? I said no I am not there is a picture of him. He had to see for himself, and as soon as he did he wanted the number. He called it, and the shelter was so happy that he wanted to adopt Rufus. They said he was scheduled to be put down tomorrow. My husband got Irate and said no I want him I will be there to pick him up today. They said you can't he has to have his surgery for nuetering and get his shots first. They said they would hold him there for us and that we could pick him up on Tuesday. Rufus is half Irish Wolf Hound and Giant Schnauzer, and I believe that he is going to love his new home and I can not wait to bring him home. I will post his picture as soon as we have him home to take one.

A Rescue Dog's Christmas Poem

Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
every shelter is full – we are lost, but not found,

Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
we hope every minute that someone will care,

They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!!

But now we sit here and think of the days..
we were treated so fondly - we had cute, baby ways,

Once we were little, then we grew and we grew
now we're no longer young and we're no longer new.

So out the back door we were thrown like the trash,
they reacted so quickly – why were they so rash?

We "jump on the children:, "don't come when they call",
we "bark when they leave us", climb over the wall.

We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
now we suffer the consequence of the errors THEY made.

If only they'd trained us, if only we knew...
we'd have done what they asked us and worshiped them, too.

We were left in the backyard, or worse -let to roam-
now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.

They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye...
"Maybe someone else will give you a try."

So now here we are, all confused and alone...
in a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
with so many to care for, they can't stay to chat,

They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer...
we know that they wonder how long we'll be here.

We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads..
of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.

Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears –
our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear

If you can't adopt us and there's no room at the Inn –
could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?

We count on your kindness each day of the year –
can you give more than hope to everyone here?

Please make a donation to pay for the heat...
and help get us something special to eat.

The shelter that cares for us wants us to live,
and more of us will, if more people will give.
