Just keep offering food sans tomatoes. The pup won't starve itself just because it's picky!

I don't think she'd starve herself as long as she's healthy but I'm not sure it should be a problem. From the site Healthypet.com they have a list of plants that are not good for your dog. From what I read what is toxic is the leaves and stems they effect the respiratory system and the gastroinlistneal systemy. On the daily puppy forums there is a thread that has an other web site about dangerous plants,. Hope this helps. Brenda

I don tknow if you know this but tomato leaves & Stems/plant are actually deadly to dogs.

im pretty sure the actual fruit is ok but i'd be careful that they arent too green.

Oh, man.... I gotta ask...

Why the hell is he getting a side dish of tomatoes? What are you feeding your dog? I can't imagine giving Kiba his portion of food, and then, oh, by the way, here's some tomatoes! That's just bizarre!! Would you mind explaining how this happens?

Our collie loves tomatoes, too. I don't give him tomatoes, but if he gets the opportunity he will definitely steal them. We have tomato plants and have had to surround them with fencing to keep him from getting to them. It has never harmed him at all but I'm not sure about a steady diet. I'd check with your vet.

snowy and me,

Phyrie wasn't being rude...just curious.
As many of us are about your dog's tomato diet.

I'm confused now why you are asking if your vet has told you to feed tomatos to your dog? May I ask, what are SANS tomato?
My brothers dog, Ben a golden retriever picks them off the plants. Loves them! My SIL gets really annoyed about it. She was complaining about it and my brother tried to tell her it was neighborhood opussom stealing the tomatos, until Ben came in licking his lips with green seeds all over his snout. BUSTED LOL Izzy seemed pretty excited about the little red ones too.

Well, well, aren't you just the newest morality police to hit the boards? It's not needed, really. We have perfectly capable moderators who are more than able to take care of any "rude" posters.

I wasn't being rude, I was curious, as RJM pointed out. Where you get "rude" from that is beyond me.

You yourself said side dish. Actually you described it as "accompaniment" but potayto/potawto. Now you're even going so far as to say you've discussed this with your vet, and he says it's OK for your dog to eat tomatoes. Why do you think a bunch of strangers on the internet are more capable than your own vet deciding what's best for your dog?

All he eats is tomatoes?? I find that hard to believe. I don’t believe you. Period.

Put that tone in your pipe and smoke it.<----(That was rude, by the way, just so’s you can tell the difference.)

Phyrie, it seems rather clear to me that this person was waiting for any reason to be ridiculous. Obviously your post did exactly what it was designed to do...expose a person. A normal response would have been to simply answer your questions, and perhaps wonder quietly why you seem so direct. You are certainly not rude and you asked a very reasonable question.

I too wondered how a dog, whom is now apparently 5, develops a taste for fresh tomatoes, and refuses to eat anything without them.

It would also behoove the new poster to show a little respect for a long standing member.

I wondered about that too, Deb. I just couldn't see what the problem was with asking. It seemed very weird to me (and still does) to feed a dog tomatoes. The OP's overreaction to my question was odd, too. And then for them to reiterate that it's "not his side dish....He lives on it!" That strikes me as just a plain lie. No dog can "live" on tomatoes alone. Dogs are carnivores, and although most of us supplement with some vegetables, most of us know that meat is the feed of choice.

I think this poster is a poser, or just an idiot. Either way, I hope they really aren't feeding a poor dog tomatoes it's whole life!
