Independent is not what you want, obedience training is what she needs...A solid down/stay is best when company arrives..

Throw your hands up with a loud ACK! and turn your back when she jumps on YOU,encourage others to do the same.

I. Think a good obedience training class will give you the tools you need and benefit her as well..Look in your phone book to find a club near you...Bomus Brian, you will meet a lot of nice doggy girls

How does Delilah react when someone rings the doorbell or knocks at the door? Does she gets "hyper" excited before someone enters your home? Try this... have a family member or a friend go out and ring the doorbell or knock on the door. When Delilah reacts to the bell or knock, put her in a sit, stay position and try to open the door. If she hyper reacts when the door opens, close the door and try again. This will show her that her actions are not appropriate. This will take a little time, but eventually she will get it. Reward her when she remains in the sit, stay position when people are able to enter without her jumping on them.
Hope that helps!
