Anyone from Arizona? Phoenix area...

Postby LexiLoveLaugh on Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:30 am

Hi,
I'm new to Arizona and don't know many people as of yet. My little Lexi isn't quite ready to meet up and make some friends yet but she will be soon :D Wondering if anyone knew of any great training/obedience classes, doggy parks or just some fun things to do around here. Maybe even meet up sometime so Lexi can have some friends and me as well  We plan on attending puppy training with PetsSmart so we will have a chance there to have some fun and meet some new friends. But thought I'd try here as well.

I do!!! Our kids and grands live in that area, Mesa and Surprise, we go quite a bit and sometimes take one of the dogs. There are two great dog parks if your near there, one in Surprise at the Sports Complex and another we go to is near Avondale. Here is a link for you since Phoenix is a big area. http://azdogparks.com/

I have met a couple of DP friends there, one I see nearly everytime I go there and one I did a evaulation on her dog and I still from her on occasion.

We will be going to Mesa in a couple of weeks. No dogs with us this time..., much the disapointment of our Grandkids, it's just way too hot this time of the year there.

We are in New Mexico, we aren't too far. We recently moved from N. Utah and have found some wonderful dog activities here and yes there are many in Phoenix!

Awesome! I will have to check those doggy parks out :D and Mesa is even better :!: I live in Gilbert which is a neighboring city. I hope you have a wonderful time with your kids and grandkids :) It probably is for the better your doggies aren't with you this time they will be miserable in this heat. I believe it got up to 110 today  Luckily Lexi seems to like our pool.... Well I think a little more curious about it than anything.

Story Time.... This morning I gave Lexi a bath since I found a tick not on her but she had brought it in the house. We went back outside to potty and she discovered my husband cleaning the sides of the pool with the brush. Lexi found it fun to chase it and well ended up falling in. NO WORRIES though she swims very well as we have been working with her... He scooped her up and not even 10 mins later she was at it again and well yes once more in the pool lol She swam over to my voice which was a little further away than last time and well I think she was a little scared this time... I scooped her up and took her in to rinse her off with some warm water. She soon fell asleep laying in my lap wrapped up in a blanket which is a first for her... She doesn't give us much cuddles. I hope that she continues to enjoy the pool as it is needed to cool off in this heat and great exercise for her :D

We have friends in Gilbert. It's great to teach Lexi how to get out of the pool, Ice would love your pool! 110........I don't do well in heat at all. We just talked to our daughter in Surprise, they were heading back home after a trip to the Grand Canyon. I could never live in Phoenix, the heat would do me in bad.

We get some dust storms here as well, the winds blow like no other and pick up the dirt off the reservation and before you know it, I have dirt and dust in the house. Today has been one of those days and we are getting the smoke from the fires which doesn't help.

Oh man I know all about fires as I grew up in California "Huntington Beach" to be specific. During the dry season there have been several times the fires up in riverside would blow heavy smoke into Orange County to the point of orange skys turning that grimm grey and ash :!: It is no fun.

Lexi is still little to the point that when on the first step of our pool which is quite large almost like a lounge step if that makes sense lol anyway she isnt able to get all the way out without help. But at least that step is only a couple inches of water. We actually are getting her a doggy life jacket that we can put on her when were cleaning the pool or in it our selves. So if she falls in she is protected enough and a plus I believe it will actually help her swim some

Our pool is always open for any company :D

I'm from California and I know about those fires all to well, we did get evacauted during one of those firestorms years ago. It wasn't a fun night, I wish never to repeat that night again. We were living in Winchester then, the Santa Ana's were blowing so hard, that fire just took off. I ended up in Urgent Care with Smoke Inhalation, to this day I cannot handle smoke or cigarette smoke.

The lifejacket is a great idea! We are planning another trip to Arizona in the late fall, perhaps we can meet at a dog park then, we should have one of the dogs with us.

I'm not looking forward to going next week, the temps are so high there. It will be a very quick trip this time, crank on that AC!! Here in the morning when I go out, it's nice and cool, it's like a furnance there so early in the morning, I can't get use to that. A pool is must there!

Wow, sorry to hear about the evacuation and smoke inhalation that must have been so scary :!: I remember a fire I think it was late 2008 or early 2009 I was working at a hair salon in Huntington Beach and the sky Ill never forget how crazy it looked and how strong the smoke smell was there in HB even though I was close to the beach. My car was covered in ash :!: You had to evacuate how close did it get to your home :?:

Late fall is a great time to come out here  during that time the weather sort of reminds me of California so I'm a little more comfortable. This is my first summer here and it just plain out sucks :!: It seems to not cool off at all still hot at like 3 or 4 in the morning... We crank the AC but man the bill :!: can get pretty high  Thankfully we do have our pool and hopefully Lexi learns to love it

I think my body is still adjusting to the climate change from Hawaii to here... There is was so hot/humid but you get used to it and on days where its around 70 surprisingly you end up kinda cold lol well I did. Sounds silly. Anyway there I was miserable because it was so humid and you just sweat 24/7 and here Im miserable because its so dry and hot lol hahaha I just cant win. I think growing up in Cali has spoiled me in a way.

Late fall doggy park sounds fun
