Boat trip with my Dad, Mike, my cousin and her boyfriend. We left from Rebecca Spit on Quadra Island and travelled up the inlets near Read, Sonora, and Stuart Islands...reaching Bute Inlet before turning around to head home.

Resident (I'm fairly certain they are not Transient) Orcas

Ridiculously huge lodge on Sonora Island, accessible only by boat or sea plane. Owned by London Drugs and rumoured to cost $375/night

My families property (well, only part if you consider the whole extended family thing)

4 of these flew over us while we were gawking at the monsterous resort

There were literally nearly 50 seals in one little area! This just shows a few.

Whirlpools. There are a number of "narrows" found in amongst the Discovery Islands, and when the tide is moving water can rip through at up to 13 knots. When we were going through it was only about 4 -6 knots.

Lynners, those photos were just amazing. I'm dying to hear all about your vacation. I'm sure the sunsets are breathtakingly beautiful almost daily.

I just saw the rest of the pictures as I was about to post!

Oh my...what a beautiful place! The whales and seals and nature just being as it should! Your family's property is lovely, and that resort didn't look too hard to take either.

Gorgeous!

I have more to share, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. Tahsis has been telling me it's bed time for the past hour!

Good night :)

Edit to add: Sorry, Sadie G, I missed your post! It's the west coast off of British Columbia. The last two sets of pictures are in the Strait of Georgia, within the Discovery Islands group.

BEAUTIFUL! I love the BC coast and those starfish are amazing. When we cruised up the coast I told OH I could live there it is so pretty. What a wonderful place to visit and live, I envy your holiday. Thanks for sharing the pics.

oooooh a purple starfish :o I'm amazed...i never knew they came in that colour. In fact i've only seen them in a rather dull shade of brown. Rock coloured in fact

I really enjoyed looking at these. More please!

I listed off the names of those places to Paul, and he knows them all... He used to work up there! He was a logger and they would barge them in, camp trailers, equipment and all, and they would work for weeks, or even months, on end.

Your pictures are beautiful, Ashley. You have a very good eye. Even though I've been on the west coast for all these years, I think you've now seen more Orcas than I have! Of course, I live on the "inside", but still... Thanks for sharing your lovely pics.

It's too bad you were too far north to get a pic of our island! I would have waved to you! LOL!

I can't take credit for the photos, unfortunately. I thought I had posted that Mike took most of them, but I guess I forgot. Whoops!

We were actually incredibly lucky to have seen the orcas! The last time I remember seeing them go by was about 1996? My Dad said that he can count on one hand the number of times he's seen them go by in front of our property like that (and he's been going there since he was a kid). I was at Quadra Wednesday night to Sunday morning, and we saw them Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!!

I love the purple starfish, too. They inspired my tatoo! There are plenty more pictures of them which I'll have to post at some point. :)

What a beautiful place to live and vacation! Had Mike ever been there before?
I love the dusk picture and the orange orcas. It looks like the rocks have eyes? or is that fish?

Linda, you don't want to put a dead starfish in your suitcase to take home...I made that mistake once! Talk about stinky!! (and it was even in a ziplock)

Can't wait to she more pictures Lynners!
