But I'm here - and I can use all the information I can get my hands on. Though I'm not new to being owned by a dog - each breed has something different to bring to the table. :D

While I'm here - thought I would mention that Carter is currently learning 'sit', 'down', and is starting on 'tunnel' (the cat's crinkly tunnel). I swear he smiles when we start our learning sessions. He appears to be as hungry for learning as he is for mealtimes. LOL

Anyhow - that's it for us.

MJ,I allways make my guys wait politely their dinner or theats. If they get overly enthuseastic I tell them "politely"and everything stops until they sit and wait. Same goes for treats. Eventually you can just freeze until they settle.

When your pup is old enough you can staft training with a good OB club (usually 6mo+).You both will enjoy it.

OB club? Well...okay, but I fail to see what's so special with a group of obstetricians. :P Seriously - OB club?

Obedience training at 15 weeks (when new session starts).
I'm afraid the Obstetricians are also on their own as I have very little contact with them....anymore. :D

Having worked with many Obstetricians I can honestly say I don't find tham very easy to train (Orthopaedic surgeons are worse). I think trying to do Obedience classes with them would be very tiring and a complete waste of time.

It's all true Richard. I've spent 17 years trying to whip surgeons into shape and all that's happened.......I'm tired. It's like herding cats.

And I have spent 15 years (and a little more) trying to train attorneys . . with the same results! You get your hands on a young one, still wet behind the ears, and for the most part they don't realize that while their book learning may have completed and the state bar may have deemed them worthy to practice law, they still have learning to do, i.e., don't abuse your legal assistant, . . a good assistant will keep you looking good before the Court (make sure your stuff is in order, that things are calendared so you show up when you are supposed to) but abuse your assistant and they just might set you up for a fall (albeit not one that will get you disbarred but one that will get your attention . . . )

:grins: You're delightful! I thought Attorneys were an untrainable breed.

Orthopaedic surgeons are the douches of doctordom. Well, except for mine, but he truly was an exception. He even called his own partner a "weenie" once! Terrible bedside manners on those guys!

I've spent 10 years trying to "herd" accountants. You would think I would remember the saying "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

The reason why beagles aren't very good with smaller pets is the huge prey drive. Gerty will chase a cat, but she won't hurt it. Gerbils, however, are another story. (See my forum "Gerbil Chaos" in Off-Topic)
