Losing my best friend

Postby LoveRocky7 on Wed Nov 03, 2010 12:30 am

My dog Rocky is 14 years old and I think he is dying. On Sunday, Halloween, he was his usual self but since then he has gone really downhill. He wont eat anything anymore, not even his favorite treats, he hardly drinks any water. He just stares off into space and sometimes I feel like he doesn't even know I'm there. All he wants is to go outside and just sits out there and stares. He is drooling really bad now, breathing harder, and looks really out of it. I am afraid to go to sleep tonight, I'm afraid when I wake up he won't wake up. He has had a rough life, 2 knee surgeries and has been battling a unremovable tumor on his leg for the last 6 years or so that has almost consumed his whole leg. We almost lost him on Christmas a few years ago goes his liver wasn't functioning correctly. I don't know what to do, he is the first and only dog I have had. I am 20 years old right now and have grown up most of my life with him. He is like a little brother to me. I am really afraid he is dying because he is really been acting different and I am scared. My sister has been out of town for a month and will be coming back this weekend so I really hope he can make it until then. I feel so guilty because I go to college and I work so these past couple of years I havent been able to spend as much time with him as I would have. I hope he knows how much I love him.

I am so sorry to hear that Rocky is declining.

I recently lost a dog, so I understand how difficult this time is. I do hope he comes out of this spell and is his old self, but, having had quite a few dogs who have died of old age, I know that the best you can do is let Rocky know how much you love him by making sure he is comfortable--maybe a trip to the vet, at least a call and then they can advise you on what course of action would be best--and be there for him.

I notice that you posted this a few days ago, how's Rocky doing now?

Thanks so much for replying. Rocky passed away early Friday morning while I was petting him. Even though I knew he wasn't going to make it, it was still super hard. My sister got home that night and was devastated because she never got to see him. It has been a really hard time and sometimes I find myself looking around for him. I hope he knows that we all truly loved him and I find comfort in knowing that he isn't in pain anymore. I am worried about my mom because she doesn't work and she was always home with him and now she just stays and bed and doesn't go out anywhere. I hurt more now because I don't know what to do for her.

May You Rest In Peace Rocky, "Pumpkin"

Jess, I am so sorry about your Rocky. Like the others have said, we all know the pain of losing our beloved companions. I, too, lost my best boy this past spring. It is devastating to have them go so fast.

Keep in your heart that Rocky knew very well how much you loved him. He would not have survived all he went thru if he didn't thrive on the love and support from you and your family.

Hugs to you and your family,

Jess, I think I commented on Rocky's profile when you added him to our community. I'm so sorry to hear that he has gone to the rainbow bridge. It is comforting to know you were with him, petting him as he passed. That shows that he trusted you and loved you.

I'm sending my condolences to your whole family. (Hugs)
