Kris absolutely correct. Coming from a line of firefighters, I've heard all the stories of family pets hiding when smoke alarms go off and they perish in the fire. Rex was one of the dogs who when the alarm went off he would run to me, so I was never worried about that.

I remember the night my brother came in from a house fire and refused to talk. All he wanted to do was sit and hug Rex.

Keeping Mr. Sniffers safe at night is the most important thing. And he is happy and content in his crate, so all is good.

Thanks for the tutorial on BOL - both explanations make sense and are virtually the same thing.

Margie and Kris both have a very good point about dogs hiding when they hear alarms. I've heard that before as well that they, like small children, will tend to hide. Henry comes running to me if the smoke detector goes off, and he is completely contained with Elliot at night. Oliver doesn't leave our room either.

Alina, you are not a mean Mummy at all! Sniffers is content in his house and would probably feel unsafe now if he weren't in there to sleep at night.

This is interesting. Kiba slept on my chest for the first ~8 weeks (due to illness). He napped in his crate. He then slept in his crate at night until over a year old. Nowadays, he is still crated if we are not home (for his safety) and he either sleeps with Paul, me, or in his crate, as he chooses. He usually choses Paul, but if Paul's on graveyards, I get him. If he sleeps with Paul on day shift, Paul will put him in his crate in my room when he goes to work ( I don't rise at 8:00 am for no one!).

I know I'm not mean but mostly everyone here doesn't crate their dog at night and I felt bad.

I don't even say the word "crate" anymore before bed. The TV turns off, he goes to the back door, pees outside, comes in and runs to his crate. He waits until the door is closed before he noms on his snacks. 8)

Poms seem to really like that den feel. Cricket will sleep deep in the closet and then sometime in the night end up on my parents head. When Cricket was at my house, I crated her and she loved it. I left the door open and at bedtime she would go in herself and she had never been in a crate.

Alina have you tried to leave the door open at night and see how he does?

Hahahaha....

You guys are ALL wrong. BOL (I stole it from Dogster, where I've been lurking for quite some time) means BARK out loud... I know, I'm a thief! BOL!

BUT it also means burst out laughing. I catch myself writing it more than LOL. haha.

SO, I haven't kenneled Paisley except when I'm gone. She is SOOO good at night. She woke me up at 5:00 this morning to potty and then she hopped up in the bed (Gunner too) to snuggle. It was really sweet. I don't think it will be as sweet when she's 75 lbs...hahaha...but neither I nor my husband stops them.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Gunner and Paisley were caught snuggling, toghether, with me last night. This is a big deal as Gunner does NOT like to be touched by other dogs when he sleeps. :D

He'd probably bark to let us know that the door isn't closed, hee hee! When he was younger, we'd accidentally not latch the crate shut a few times and he stayed in there.

Hum, I wonder what is wrong with mine? LOL

Bark out loud...dah? **bonking myself in the head**

What a good big brother Gunner is!! He probably knows Paisley is a little unsure and he is comforting her. That is the making of a life time bond right there.

It was really sweet! We've had quite a few pups in our house (I've been a foster for quite some time) and he has NEVER allowed ANY of the others to snuggle with him. I think it's made a difference letting her sleep in our room (we have a HUGE dog bed, bigger than Gunner needs). He sees her as a family member and not a visitor. Which is exactly what I want. =D
