Deborah, my mom didn't know anything about soccer and now she loves the game. I'm sure you'll be able to understand how it goes sooner or later :)

Oh, poor Thierry...with his form last year with Barca and then the complete debacle with France, I think the guy knew he had to leave Europe. How has he been for the Red Bulls? At least he went there instead of the Galaxy.

What happened to Freddie? As you can tell...I don't follow MLS hardly at all...

Freddie is now playing with the Chicago Fire. I think he's doing well on the team as far as I know. Freddie gets a warm welcome when people see him around town if he's back in Seattle, but when they're on the pitch he gets booed b/c obviously he's on the opposing team. I have to say, it's nice when we score against his team now (though I do miss his pretty face :P).

Thierry Henry has done alright I think (I only really pay attention to the Western Conference). He got in some hot water for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UiK7rzGcMA. I guess he's in the habit of kicking the ball after the whistle blows or something at the end of a game? I dunno.

I am somewhat familiar with the game of Soccer, or Football as it is rightly called everywhere else. I am just not familiar with most of the players as you and Margie are. :D

I do enjoying reading about the gossip though and hope to learn more about the players from you and Margie.

Deb, we'll get you up to date on all the footie gossip!!

I just watched the Henry video. Insane! He does do things like that on occasion, but nothing that bad. What was he thinking? Of course, I said that more than once after the match between France and Ireland. Anyway...

I agree...Freddie is quite cute! He's also quite a character from all the stories - but in a very good way. He moved to Chicago? Is Brian McBride still playing with them?

Tracy and I were discussing the Wayne Rooney thing a couple of weeks ago. Do you know all about that? It will be interesting to see how he plays now that he is supposedly back to full fitness.

I wish you the best of luck for the final on Sunday!! I will try to watch and be on the lookout for your friend. And since I have no opinion about either team, I will throw my support behind Seattle for you!

And Deb...so you know who we are talking about...here is Freddie Ljungberg:

And now you know why I said he was cute.

Margie, I looked at that picture and immediately thought that if he had spent as much time being "groomed" as David Beckham (teeth whitened, hair highlighted, etc) he is WAY more handsome! He's probably a better player because he worries less about prancing, as Tracy put it, than Beckham.

Apparently, I'm not that keen on the Beckhams. I didn't realize how much until we started talking about it. I do remember that Pele was supposed to be one of the best and I do recognize some of the other names as well.

Margie at this rate, you and Chandra will have me watching the matches after Corrie Street on a Sunday. :P

I'll catch on, hopefully. Thanks for walking me through it.

Are you talking about the Wayne Rooney affair scandal thing? I dunno about anything else really. I'm not that fond of him to be honest.

And yes! Even though Seattle isn't in the game, I'll be cheering for FC Dallas! (red-white striped jerseys) number 14!

Brian McBride actually JUST retired! I always liked him though I only really knew him by name, but for some reason I think I thought he was one of the cuter players and always cheered for him if I heard his name lol. He's a great player though for sure.

Was the France Ireland match the whole handball debacle?

As for other players, don't even get me started on Cristiano Ronaldo - whiny little boy as far as I'm concerned :)

Deb, Freddie really is a good looking guy. Very different player from Beckham. The sad part about Beckham is he spends so much time now promoting the so called "Beckham Brand" that all the good work he did a footballer seems to be forgotten now. He really was one of the best England players ever, but now we just groan at the mention of his name. And don't get me started on Victoria...that woman has some issues...

Chandra, yeah, it started with the whole prostitute revelation. (Deb, Wayne Rooney was playing with a prostitute while he wife was pregnant.) He then started saying he didn't want to discuss a new contract with Manchester United because he wanted to leave. In fact, he kept making comments that would contridict his manager. You just don't do that to Sir Alex Ferguson! He was then left OFF the team for a big match, even though he was supposedly fit. Lots of stuff was said the following day by both sides - AND the press. anyway...suddenly, the following day, big announcement that Rooney has signed a MASSIVE new contract that will make him the highest paid player EVER in England...he then left the country for a little vacation with his wife to Dubai. Even the most staunchest Man U supporter is fed up with him.

Just a heads up for anyone watching the game, Dallas may be wearing blue and white horizontal striped jerseys because they're at an away game rather then at home. But I could be mistaken.... I'll edit this once they hit the field!
EDIT:

Yep, Dallas is wearing blue and white horizontal stripes. George is number 14!

Chandra, I've got the match on!

And sorry...yes, FC Dallas, not Seattle. You live in Seattle...sorry about that!

Tonight was a rough night. I feel so bad for him, with that "goal" that the Rapids got b/c of the ball bouncing off his knee :(

You could just tell he felt horrible for it. It was so sad to see him crying on the field. Hopefully while the season's off he'll bounce back. It makes you just wanna hug him!

And yes he is very good looking :) He always has been!
