I'm glad you dodged the Cyclone. But things don't look so good for QLD.

Candice, am I right?(Macy Moo) I'm glad you dodged that cyclone. :D

Wow, look at that map of Queensland! We were talking about the cyclone in Science the other day...
My mum has gone in panic mode... she drilled it in my head that I had a dream I was in a clone/flood!!!
It's going to be sooo bad... my towns on the map... right down the bottom, Bundaberg.
I hope it doesn't go down here, but I really hope it doesn't destroy everything...
Floods, now this... AHHHH! :o

Glad to hear the cyclone fizzled out Candice. It doesn't matter that it was all a lot of fuss about nothing. It's better to be prepared and have nothing than the other way around.

Louise I hope that cyclone misses you. Stay safe.

Candice, I'm glad to hear everything turned out good for you. Glad it fizzled to nothing.

Now if the one that is headed toward Louise will do the same thing all will be good. Let us know what happens Louise!

Today in Science we missed out our whole session and instead talked all about cyclones, hehe.
The cyclone is about 600km wide!!! Which is going to hit north QLD bad. And I'm more middle-lower QLD so I'll be just out of it. Still lots of rain though, and it is said that our river will rise. And the prediction is that where this cyclone hits- after it leaves it will be devastation. (Can't remember what the cyclones name is)
All the hospital in Cairns have been evacuated and moved the sick people to hospitals that won't be hit by the cyclone and they really sick to Brisbane. Also in Cairns, more than 30 000 people have been evacuated.
I don't actually watch TV, but today I'm going to be glued to the news!
And my science teacher said that for Australia, this will be our CYCLONE-OF-THE-CENTURY!!! It is category 5!!!   And apparently it's going to be the worst cyclone ever hit Australia so far.
Since I'm near I should be updating you guys about it, but really, I don't know that much right now. So tomorrow I'll watch the news tonight and add some more info if I can.

Glad to hear your not in its path Louise!

I've been listening to the news all day, and it just seems to get worse. This thing is just gonna be so huge :(

I also read that a lot of evacuation points are not taking pets :(

here is a link to the radar if anyone is interested

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national ... loop.shtml

From what I have heard, all emergency services have been stood down until the cyclone passes and there are 4000 troops in townsville as well as helicopters & planes on standby ready to help when it hits

Also the entire north of QLD may be without power for a prolonged period of time. Apparently there are 2 power transmission spines that supply power to North QLD from Central QLD.. 1 spine travels along the coast and the 2nd spine is about 150 KMs inland along the coast.. The coastal spine will be knocked out, but the 2nd spine has never been tested by Cyclonic winds. The cyclone will buffet the 2nd spine and it is a very real possibility it too will be knocked out.. This will leave the entire area of North QLD without electricity including all areas west that will not be in Yasi's path

QLD is a big state, so for half of it to be without power is pretty big!

Candice, I had a look at the Radar and that is a major storm. I'm glad you are alright, and as Tracy said, it is far better to be prepared and have nothing happen than the other way around.

Louise I do hope you manage to weather the storm well. I'm glad you are not going to be directly in its path.

It sounds like the Australian Government certainly has their act together, as much as is possible. I hope everyone stays safe and that the damage is minimal.

There has been so much "weather" going on here at the moment, we aren't hearing as much about other parts of the world as we normally would. Please keep us posted.
