Well, first night's done! I'm pretty tired, but not because Rollie (pronounced "R-all-ie") cried - he didn't make a peep! He really took to the crate so we brought it upstairs and put the toys and towels from his litter in there. We took turns playing with him in and around the crate while we got ready for bed. We tried closing it by increments and then latched it a few times and he was completely not bothered. When it was time for lights-out, we nonchalantly closed the door, turned out the lights, and turned on our white noise (that's for us, but he might enjoy it too). Then I waited. I had one ear ready for his crying. After an hour and a half of tossing and turning I realized he was perfectly content. Then I started waiting for the potty cries and finally after about 4 hours with no noise, I decided to check on him to make sure he was ok. There he was sitting up with his little, white-tipped tail wagging. So my husband jumped up to take him out (really a funny thing - in his shorts all bleary eyed with this tiny puppy muttering "Outside, potty. Outside, potty!"
After potty, he went back in with no trouble. The trouble came this morning when I discovered he does not like to be in a room alone. I had him in his playpen eating breakfast while I was trying to do some things in the kitchen - next room over and within his eyeline - but he did not like that. He's really never been alone before so it's no wonder. Now it looks like he's looking for his litter and is more unsettled, but I'm sure he'll settle in with time. My hubby is home with him and he told me that Rollie is already taking his first nap of the day - in his crate where he put himself! Hooray! He likes the crate!
I can't wait to go home.
P.S. I tried taking a bunch of pics, but 9-wk-old puppies don't stay still much. I have a good one of him sleeping on the way home though. I'll get it up there.
Thank you for all the support and for sharing in with us during this special time!
