About two weeks ago my boyfriend and I adopted a greater swiss mountain dog....er....puppy who we named Caeda. The daddy is purebred, and the mom is supposedly purebred, but with no papers (I saw her, she certainly looks like a Swiss Mountain Dog). We weren't looking for a purebred pup, so its not a big deal to us, and we certainly didn't pay a purebred price. She was just over 7 weeks when we got her, the breeder wasn't able to keep the litter much longer for personal reasons. So yes, I know, early separation isn't ideal, but that's what happened.
Even though Caeda is still pretty young we're trying to develop good habits with her right away. She's a beautiful pup, and we want her to be a beautiful and well behaved dog. We both saw our parents training puppies, but its the first time as adults training a dog on our own, realizing how little we really know! We're noticing some things (that I'll be posting about all seperately) that we want to make sure don't turn into problems later on...we know she is going to be BIG and potentially very powerful. She's pretty smart, only 8 weeks old and she is consistently sitting on command, except when she is excited....I hear that this is a pretty decent feat! She is really strong willed though, and stubborn, hates not having company. I've heard this breed can be kind of hard to train, so I've already read a bunch on the forum and I'm going to be harassing everybody here for more advice
