Lets see, I grew up on the south shore of Long Island and then moved to Potsdam NY which is near the Canadian border for college and then I relocated to Fairbanks Alaska

After meeting a guy over the internet and he flew out to NY to meet me and we got married 5 days after meeting. That is how I wound up in Alaska!
Fairbanks is famous for The World Ice Carving Championships, some of the work these ice carvers do is beautiful,
http://www.icealaska.com you can see the sculptures from this years competition.
Fairbanks is right in the center of Alaska, the Chena River flows thru it and meets up with the Tanana River going south.
In the winter it is dark, bu December 21st Winter Solstice we get about 4 hours of daylight, in the summer we get almost 24 hours of daylight by June 21st which is Summer Solstice.
In the winter it can get to -40 or -50 (F) and in the summer it can get up into the high 80's (F) or sometimes into the 90's (F)
So far this summer we have not gotten a whole lot of rain which has been causing forest fires.
Oh and we are also famous for the Yukon Quest Sled Dog race that either starts in Fairbanks going to Whitehorse Yukon Territories or it starts in Whitehorse and ends in Fairbanks, the race is held in February and next year it will start in Fairbanks.
I would say that Fairbanks has a LOT of dog mushers in the area.
Oh and unfortunately Alaska is also famous for Sarah Palin
