Why don't you go to the beach Paws? We go whenever we get a nice day. Pack a picnic and it makes a cheap day out.

The beach would be the perfect way to exercise the dogs, too...Not only can they run, but they can swim. That's why I'd give anything (apart from the dog...!) to live closer to the beach. It'd sure save having to avoid people who are afraid of dogs. Imagine it: you take your dogs to a substitute dog park. Not really a dog park, but everybody knows that that is where people go to walk their dogs. Half-way 'round, you get stopped by someone "Excuse me, can you leash your dogs? We're not comfortable around dogs." :| Now imagine it at the beach..."We aren't comfortable around dogs." - "Sorry? The wind...I can't hear you..." *Walk away...*

Because we have so many dogs, holiday's are impossible. So I'd miss out on nothing! So...Deal?

I personally would take the dogs down to a place called hengistbury head, which is FANTASTIC for the food, scenery and the dogs to run on the secluded (sheltered by cliffs) beaches, very often if I could. However, my dad (who'd have to take us really due to my mum still not being 100% with her injured knee) always says it's not worth going if it's like past 11 because he thinks a day at the beach should LITERALLY be a DAY. Well with three teenagers in the house who have to get up at 6:30am every other day of the week (and one in particular who suffers with insomnia ;) ) that just doesn't happen often. I know that sounds like a stupid reason why we dont go but my dad cann be a bit silly sometimes (and I think that really he usually just can't be bothered and that's the excuse he uses :p) Also my parents are perfectly happy to stick to the Southampton common. However, twice a year we go to the isle of Wight for a beach/hiking holiday with the dogs, for a week each time, so I can't complain. And my brother and I have discovered it costs £7.60 for the both of us to get to a place in the New Forest I know VERY well (and so, we have no fear of getting lost because I can always find the way back eventually XD) with the dogs, and Monts and Woods really loved that walk. We made a day of it, took a huge bottle of water for the dogs and a bowl and nothing else and just walked all day with the dogs off lead without any problems at all. That's just perfect for us. On a beach, another issue is that with Monty's unreliable recall, combined with the sound of the waves often being quite loud, and the fact that a lot of dogs go there, it often means we can't properly relax and enjoy our time there with the dogs. Anyway, sorry for the lecture :| lol

My town is practically surrounded by about 10 lakes(we're almost an island) none of the beaches allow dogs by or in the water. It upsets me so much!

That's a shame Ashley. I used to be near a reservoir which didn't allow dogs in the water but that was because of blue/green algae.

Paws it's good that you are getting out and about under your own steam. The New Forest is beautiful.

Tracy, it was a wild trip trying to find a postcard of Indiana around here. I didn't think it would be that hard  .

I finally stopped at Cracker Barrel last night on the way home from work. They no longer carry them either, but the lady behind the counter said she kept all of the leftover stock from when they did sell them. I found one that not only mentions Indiana, but "the Hoosier state" also  . I tried to pay for it, but she refused my money! She said she hopes the girl in England enjoys it.

So, a story behind the postcard I will be mailing. I thought you might enjoy that. The postcard is going in the mail today!

Thanks Linda. That is very kind of her to not want payment. Every shop here has a rack full of postcards outside it.

It's funny you say that, Linda. Our little local post office has lots of artist's cards (including photo cards), all by local artists. But they only had one "real" postcard! So that's what Pip's getting... I told the postmaster, John, that I was sending it to a little girl in England, and he was very careful putting the stamp *just* so!

Trace, have you mentioned how old Pip is? I can't recall. She might not like being referred to as "little"!

I have totally failed! I have the address in my car, all ready to stop and buy a Post Card and it has completely slipped my mind this week.  :o

This week isn't over yet! I still have tomorrow.

I am SO sorry! I will be all over that tomorrow and it will be mailed.

Deb, there is no time limit on this idea. Whenever you get round to it will do.

Phyrie, I suppose she isn't so little. She's thirteen. :D

I finally found a Michigan post card...Woo-Hoo! In the grocery store, of all places! :?
Apparently postcards aren't in such high demand, with all the technology now.

13? Hmm, I wonder if my note will sound patronizing? I sure hope not! If she's miffed, Trace, please tell her I didn't know her age at the time, and was writing as if talking to my youngest Grand.

Ok Phyrie, I will do but I'm sure it will be fine. She'll appreciate the gesture whatever you've written.

Kian, it isn't too late. I'll send you her address.

Thanks everyone.
