Meet Little Ryuk *Warning Snake Pictures* 3/18/2012

Postby iheartmydog on Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:23 am

Sorry I haven't posted lately, I've been busy with my finals and this lovely little creature.

Soooo my camera randomly decided to work again tonight. So finally, pictures of little Ryuk :D

He ate perfectly fine (I left him alone after for a little over a day to digest) and he has become very easy to handle and comfortable with me handling him. First few sessions he'd be constantly in striking position when I went to pick him up, he hated being touched, I couldn't do the hand over hand method because he didn't want me touching his head at all. Now he's actually more comfortable in my hands that on the ground, he doesn't budge if I go to pick him up, no striking position, and he has calmed down a lot.
He has cute little red cheeks (these bugged me at first as I'm a newb to corn snakes, but upon googling pictures of ghosts I saw others had them... hopefully they are normal) and a slight bit of yellow on his neck. I forgot how cool snakes felt when they move. Last time I felt it I got to hold a Burmese, when it was on my neck it felt like a massage. lol

I like him! Snakes are fascinating creatures, I use to catch them as a kid. Do you feed crickets to him?

Right now he's eating pinky mice, we'll eventually move up to fuzzies then adults. Possibly even rats if he gets that big. Corn Snakes are also known as Red Rat Snakes. :)

My son used to have an albino corn snake named "Wisp" for wisp of smoke (clever, right?) but she died. He has another snake now, but I think it's some kind of boa. I don't "do" snakes, and I've never met my son's pet. I can't understand the attraction for owning a pet that is incapable of feeling any emotion for you, but that's just me.

They do give me the squicks, though...

They can sure give the illusion, though!

Our turtle flaps and splashes and freaks out whenever I walk by the tank. But that's because he's been conditioned to know that me = food sometimes. So he gets excited EVERY time. :)

Well security is enough emotion for me, he feels secure, and is calm when I hold him but will get panicky if strangers do. He'll calm down as he ages. :D

Thank you Caramel (Sorry I'm late on the thank you  )

I figured it would be easier to keep them all in one thread, avoid phobia accidents and cluttering.

He decided to cooperate with the camera yesterday so I actually got some decent pictures. It's next to impossible to shape a baby corn to the position you'd like, and even harder to get them to stay like that. lol So I made a mini-hide out of the corner of the towel, lifted it up and viola!

I also turned him blue.... it's a extremely simple edit but I liked the colors. :3

He's gorgeous! I love snakes. I always have but after visiting my friend with all her lizards and snakes I decided I MUST own one someday. I really want a royal Python. Before that I wanted a reverse Okeetee corn but I change my mind a lot. XD for now though I'll be getting a Crested Gecko.

Anyway, Ryuk is adorable. How did you pick the name?

I would like a Ball Python too, but that would be down the road and when I get more money as the morphs are quite expensive. I'd love a soul sucker morph. I've always liked Crested, adorable little things and from what I've read they're quite easy to care for. But I'm more of a snake person. :)

I named him after a character in a show, Death Note. Sounds gloomy and all and the character is a "shinigami" (god of death) but he's quite comical.

Have you seen the Blue Eyed Lucy? They're GORGEOUS. If only I could afford something like that xD

I thought the name might be from somewhere like that. I never watched/read deathnote purely because everyone else was and I wanted to do my own thing xD such a weirdo. Don't really read manga anymore now though, stick to Studio Ghibli anime. Love those people. Sorry ramble xD

I never thought I could be a reptile person (thinking only fluffies were my thing) until I met all my friend's animals. She has a Hogg Island boa, a Common Boa (HUGE,) another snake I can't remember. Two corn snakes, and then four cresties, two....roborovski something or other lizards, two Berber skinks, a....blue tongued african lizard (or something) and....fish xD oh and a tortoise and a pacman frog. Haha.

I love her little zoo.

I'd love to know someone with a "zoo' of their own. I've been wanting to contact a local rescuer who does shows but I cannot find information on him for the life of me. Two years ago he came to a yearly camp I'm a counselor at and said folks can come and help him. Lost his card though.

I generally don't watch popular shows, the only reason I ended up watching it is because a very good friend of mine loved it. He's just like me when it comes to movies/shows, doesn't generally go for popular things and has to be a genuinely well done movie/show in order for him to like it. So I gave it a try and got hooked for awhile.

Have you ever seen a Enchi Champagne Ball? They're stunning! I really like the Blue eyed Lucys as well, but I've always been a sucker for the ones with fainter patterns and splashing colors.

That snake is gorgeous! I love the same ones as you, the splashing patterns ones are called piebalds I think, aren't they?

Look at this!

Rare!

I have a feeling as soon as I get my first reptile I'll be bitten......won't be able to stop wanting more more more! I would also really like a bearded dragon, partly because they make really good pets but also because I want to call it Charizard >.> haha.

I can't have a snake right now, mum is fine with reptiles, she likes all animals as I do but she's worried about me finding accommodation when I go to uni. With the Crestie, because my friend will be breeding it she said she'd happily look after it when I can't, which is very nice of her and otherwise I wouldn't be able to have any lmao.

Sorry for the late reply, my iPhone didn't like the link so I had to wait til I could nab the 'pooter. :F

Piebalds are a normal pattern with white over it.

For example this snake is Axanthic

And this is an Axanthic Piebald

I may be using it incorrectly, but when I say splashing I mean when two colors are coming together but it's not just a straight difference, they sort of gradually change to the other color.(Same picture as earlier.)

But that's awesome! It's always handy to have someone to watch them. Thankfully I have a friend who has been handling exotics (primarily big cats, but has worked with snakes) so my little Corn is nothing to her. :D

Some more pictures, he's almost 5 months now. My camera's battery ran low so these are the only picture I got. Just had a meal last night so he's got a nice lump. :3 I love how his color changes down his back, I originally wasn't very big on his color but it has really grown on me.

Ryuk is looking great! How fast is he growing?
