Another way one can tell prior to posting is to look at the date of the very last post. Unless, depending on the subject matter (as Emma indicated) one has something new to add, to go back and revisit a conversation that occurred several years ago just bumps the thread to the top, thereby giving people like you the idea that something new has been posted.

Simply check the last date of the last post. As Moderators, we attempt to delete as many "old posts" as possible, but again, depending on the Section and the Thread itself, denotes what should and should not be removed.

This whole conversation really should have taken place in the Site Problems and Suggestions section as it has little or nothing to do with Dobermans.

Moving forward, let's keep the exchange on information on this thread strictly to Dobermans, and if someone wishes to send me a PM for clarification, please feel free.

Dobermans are what I consider to be very 'family oriented' dogs. They have a tendency to bond very strongly with their human family and be leery/watchful of strangers.

Dobermans will be most happy when they are WITH their owner. This is not the sort of dog to get if you plan to have it live alone in the backyard in my opinion.

Yes, this entry on the Doberman is so very wonderful and if you have ever really had or gotten to know a Doberman you would really appreciate this. In my heart I can feel the love and dedication that my wonderful big boy Buddy had towards me and our other dogs...and he was only half Doberman. A real working guard dog and so very intelligent, my husband and I recall one of our most profound moments with Buddy and our new yellow Lab, Rosebudd, just a tiny puppy of 7 weeks. Lots of bird traffic where we used to live and one day here comes an eagle type, open claws visible, that is how close he came to our yard and Buddy, who always watched the skies, stood up on his hind legs and let this predator know that the tiny puppy was not for him to take. A day I will never forget!

The research the writer did is so enlightening and I believe anyone who wants to have a dog should research the same way. Maybe we would not have so many homeless, lost and abused pups around. Thank you for your caring work for Dobermans.

The information you have given is so enlightening, DG! I love reading about breeds I love (and even others) and becoming more knowledgeable about those breeds, it's very rewarding knowing and seeing how a breed has evolved and what it's purpose was!

That link was the best part in my opinion. It showed some great pictures of what they really looked like back in the beginning.

The Dobermans of today don't look exactly like those of the beginning but they share the same general traits that Herr Dobermann was looking for in his work with the breed.
