The Doogles - 20/09: Batman and a red Rosette

Postby Emma & Kay on Sat Mar 03, 2012 4:49 pm

I've been busy these past few weeks, but have been faithfully lurking the boards. I just uploaded tyhe contents of my camera (which I've been keeping close) and found some pictures that I'm not ashamed to post!

Star got a war-wound...She ran right into a tree. Such a lucky puppy. You can see how close it is to her eye.

I love those photos, especially the pocket pointer one  that's something Monty does if he hears an interesting sound off in the distance, and is considering hurtling off out of sight towards it  lol

Poor Star! She was very lucky, but she looks very happy afterwards anyway XD. I hate being out and having a dog hurt itself. We went out in the New Forest a while ago and Woody ran full pelt into a wire fence. My heart stopped for a moment when he yelped but apart from a little bit of puffiness on his face, he was fine.

I loved all of the photos! It's hard for me to keep all of their names straight, but I'm old.

Your dogs are beautiful, and clearly well loved! :D

Until we got Star, I never fully appreciated the work that goes into keeping meat on a naturally skinny dogs' bones.

Paws, she didn't seem to notice when she did it. She just ran into the tree, grabbed the ball, and ran off to play again. I saw her hit the tree, but only noticed she was injured when she gave me the ball after she'd taken the other dogs for a few laps 'round the field. Poked at her face a bit, patted her on the head and off she went for another 10 minutes before we came in. She was most displeased when I cleaned her up (note the third "injury photo").

Deb, don't worry about names. We refer to them by physical appearance more often than name. Skinny Dog...Fat Dog...Black Dog...Brown Dog...White Dog (more commonly "Pig")... :P

Star's always done the 'Pointer' thing, and she seems to know how to use it, pointing when she sees something, or hears something. I'm still trying to figure out how I can encourage that. After watching a documentary featuring Larry Allen and Barbara Sykes, I introduced Kay to the art of 'tracking', and she's a natural. It'd be nice if all the dogs could have a 'job' to focus on.

Much like Gizmo and Barney...This little dude isn't mine. He belongs to a close friend who's been waiting for him for years. I think the puppy was worth the wait.

Emma, I like that you call them "Black Dog", "Brown Dog", and even "White Dog". Clearly they are all well loved. I'm sure some people find it hard to imagine having so many dogs at once, but I remember the days well. It makes for a fun household, especially when our house had six children to match the six dogs, sometimes seven dogs.

Your photographs are absolutely beautiful, as are their individual characters.

Wahey...Sun's been shining bright for the last few days, so I haven't been afraid to take 'Nick the Nikon' outside with me. Here are some of the usual snaps. (I realise my photos are mostly 'dogs-running-in-the-field'...I'll work on changing my 'angle' this year, or something.)

Gizmo and Barney are our current guests, hopefully going home soon. Their owner, one of my dog walking clients, Jean, was hospitalised on Thursday, and the dogs were more than welcome here...Gizmo has his own DailyPuppy profile because we were unofficially fostering him for a really short time. Jean ended up being his permanent home. :)

Barney really misses his 'mum'. Everytime I stand up, he gets all excited thinking that I'm taking him home.

And Gizmo couldn't care less.

Tia had her claws clipped. I swear, if looks could kill...

Emma, those latest round of photos are magnificent! At least you capture your dogs in motion. Oliver and Henry are often snapped "at rest". Oliver is really good at that.

All of your dogs are clearly very happy, healthy and well loved. They are living a life every dog should have.

Deb, we're so lucky to be able to provide a safe place where the dogs can run around whenever they please. There are no leashes involved when we get ready to take them up the field. It's literally right behind our house, so once we've checked to make sure there's nothing for the dogs to chase (deer, rabbits or the neighbours' kids!) we can just open the gate and up they go, ready for 20 minutes of fetch.

It's really nice being able to do that.

Vanessa, I was just searching for a photo of Star as a young puppy to show you how much she's changed, and decided to post everyone's puppy-pics...

Tippi at around 12 weeks old. We weren't a very photography-oriented family 7 years ago.
Image

Tia at 8 weeks, the first day she came home. Small enough for Tippi's first collar! It wasn't until we got Tia that I became interested in photography, thanks to some pictures my uncle took of her.
Image

Star at 5, 9 and 13 weeks. She was "meant to be" a black and white square-shaped dog, or at least that's what we were aiming for. She didn't grow up to be anything like what we expected, but we don't care. We love our skinny-dawg.

Jack at 13 weeks.

Kay at 9 weeks.

(I haven't included my sisters' two dogs, because she was so kind when she asked me not to. )

I love the "baby" photos! :D

Thanks for putting their names with all of them as well. It makes it easier for this old person.

We've still got Gizmo and Barney, sadly. Barney has just begun to settle in, so that's good. :) We're looking after our friends' two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pepsi and Loki, for today, so that makes it a 9-dog household. The more the merrier!

We took the dogs up the field today, but I was focused on taking pics of Loki. He's grown so much.
