Cel, they are both lovely!!!

I love Duce's ears. What an adorable darling. I suspect there might be some hound in that dog, along with Labrador Retriever.

Trooper really is just that...what a sweetheart! He has those lovely "jowlies", and a lovely expressive face.

Deb that's definitely a possibility, especially considering how slender he is. Most labs are more barrel-like. :D

Sorry for the delay guys, been so busy.

Duce, Goliath, and Trooper got adopted.

I took out this gal, Sophie, gosh she was just so sweet, extremely gentle and easy going. She also got adopted. :)

I took out a red Pit Bull mix today named Mushca (I'm guessing it's pronounced moosh-kuh), I'll get pictures up as soon as possible. :)

Curly and Spartan's adoption rates were reduced, cross your fingers.

Here's Mushca, she was such a sweetheart, I took her out because she was starting to get kennel depressed. She whacked me quite well with that tale of hers. She wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed when we were working on shaping, took several sessions for her to grasp that the object had relevance but she was starting to get it in the end. I really like her. I didn't take her outside for pictures since she's missing a toe nail and it's still healing.

Dat feels so good! As you can see she needs a good brushing, probably could use a bath, and some good dog food.
Image
She could use a pound or two, I don't think she's been eating that much. :/ Hopefully taking her out will help her relax more.

I took out a boy named Zane today, other wise known as "fat loud mouth". He shall be my new project dog for now, he continually jumps and barks in the kennel, appears to have had barking heavily reinforced. He's a good dog if you want to test how much patience someone has. lol

Other than that he's a nice, I took him out and played ball for a little bit, I figured I threw it just enough to calm him nerves and work. Nope, apparently he was pooped from that little bit. So, besides being a behavioral project dog we'll see about trying to pry some pounds off. No promises though since I have no control over how much they feed him. :/
Brought him in and worked on being quiet before getting the ball, then sitting and being quiet, he was starting to catch on by the end.

To show his full chubbiness.

And I believe Mushca was euthed this morning, I didn't know it was coming to her time (we don't place dogs in different areas), so I'm glad I took her out for the whole hour yesterday. RIP girly.
Also, others posted haven't made it out but I didn't know if folks would be downed by it and stop viewing. Since this is already on the sadder side I'll say them.
Beauty, all potential adopters and rescues were turning her down due to her DA. Nikita, again Pit bull type dog + shelter = grim, she had been there for awhile and wasn't getting very many visits, if any at all. Angel, she had bad heartworms.

If those of you that view this would rather me not say, let me know.

Poor Mushca, and the others as well. I went back and did a search on each one just to be sure I was remembering them correctly.

I'm glad you got to take Mushca out yesterday and let her have some fun. I love the pic of her whacking herself. Even if she didn't make it out, at least she got to spend some time with you and get some well deserved attention. RIP.

It's so sad that so many pits don't make it out, but so many people are weary of them because of their reputation (I know it's the owners, not the dogs). I could never have one because of restrictions where I live -- they can ban a dog just because they think it might have a bit of pit in it. (Maybe a reason to move?) A neighbor was recently told to either move or get rid of his dog. He had lived in the complex for about 2 years, but the new manager decided his dog looked like a pit (she's a boxer mix of some sort). He left and is now fighting the complex for his money because they said he broke the lease.....

Sorry for that little tangent. Anyways, I don't mind you giving updates on the dogs, even if it isn't the good kind. But I'll leave it up to others.

Cel, this is your thread, and it is about Shelter Dogs. The hard truth is that not all dogs have a happy ending, sadly. If people don't like the rules where they live, they can move, sad as that is as well. This is not the place to debate the "rules".

It's your call Cel. You've been around long enough to know when it's too much, or not enough. As always, I commend you for your continued devotion to the homeless and forgotten, and your resilience to return day after day. You do make a difference and I'm sure you made a huge difference yesterday for Muschca. She knew love at least once. ♥

Thank you two <3 I'm glad you understand, sometimes people can get overly upset by such things.

I forgot to mention Tosca also didn't get adopted, she isn't in this thread but some of you might remember her.

And it is indeed unfair, Pit Bull type dogs truly are hard to adopt. Puppies almost always get adopted, but with older dogs it's very hard to find them homes. And as far as bans, they're quite ridiculous, it doesn't reduce attacks as they claim, instead innocent animals suffer. It's why I can't go to Germany, I'd love to, but not with their BSL.

Cel, 20 years from now it will be a different Breed that is subjected to "profiling". When you are as old as I am, you remember such things.

The few have ruined it for the many with irresponsible ownership. Statistics support the fact that when a dog is involved in a incident showing "Gross Bodily Harm" (including fatalities) the prevalent "Breed type" has fallen on the Pit Bull. Now any dog that even has a vague resemblance is tarred with the same brush. As I already said, this thread is not the place, nor are these Forums, for this debate.

Know that once the humans who wish to own these dogs start taking responsibility, as they did with GSD's, Dobermans, and other Breeds, that this will change. Until then, blame all of those "hood rats" who like to be posers with ill-bred dogs, that are ill-raised, and blame those that let their dogs out who attack and kill other dogs and injure humans. Until the people are stopped, there is no hope of helping the dogs.

In the meantime, keep doing what you do. You are making a difference. Because of you, Muschca knew a loving hand and kind voice, at least once in her life. Alice is thriving because of you. I'm sure you've seen the type of people to whom I'm referring as I see them around here. They are the ones who need educating, more so than the General Public.

Yes, I know of these people, I see them far too often. Not only have they skewed the breed's rep, but the image of the breed. 80% of the public probably could not accurately identify a APBT.

Most people hear Pit bull and think of a 80lb monster, they're suppose to be between 30-70lbs, they're not big dogs. I could go on and on so I shall refrain.

Thank you so much Deb, it's been very rewarding to work with the dogs.

Curly got adopted and already went home, Charlee also got adopted and is getting ready to go up and get fixed then get picked up by her new home. :yipee:

I didn't get to take Zane out because they had me do Pet of the Week shots again.

This girl's name is Carley, she kept winding up in the shelter because her owners weren't properly containing her so the AC said enough and confronted them about it, they just handed her over like it was nothing. Poor gal's skinny as well, you can see about 5 ribs and she has a thick double coat. :( She's very sweet though, she was well mannered on leash and rather sensitive to pressure on the leash.
Doesn't she have a sweet face?

This is Toots, she's been here awhile because she got sick and was on meds. She just got off of them thankfully, and when I was in today she was being visited with for a long time. Hopefully it went well. A nice little pup, responsive, and jumps straight up and down like a Jack.

Late again! Image

I worked with Zane all Thursday, he improved noticeably  Only took me a minute to get him out of the kennel (before it took several minutes of ignoring his constant barking), and he did not bark once when we played with the tennis ball.

Spartan's still there :( It's quite sad to see a dog grow up in the shelter, he's gotten so much bigger.

Friday I took more pet of the week pictures. (Usually Mondays and Fridays that's what I do.)

A little twist, Guinea pigs, which freak me out. :dunno: But the shelter had two so I took some pictures.
Flash this one look like a demon. His name is Mr.Fluffy (Yeah... staff didn't like it either)

Back to dogs, this is Domino, an absolute sweet heart. Just easy going, mellow, enjoys your company.

Callie, very pretty gal, more of a athletic build, doesn't get along with other dogs but is very sweet and people oriented. I didn't get to have her out as long as I wanted to, but I like her, nice responsive gal.

I took Callie out again today, she was a lot of fun! Very zesty girl, she gets overexcited when she hears a squeaker but nothing horrible. And given how responsive she is, it'll be a snap.

Cel, you managed to capture some amazing photos of Callie! I do love the one of her on her back, in the grass, with her back legs up in the air, just loving the moment. She looks like such a sweet girl!!!!

I do hope she finds a wonderful, forever home. She seems so sweet, happy and playful. ♥

Thank you! She was a blast to take out.

Duce was returned. :( Didn't get to see why, they were cleaning the inside part of the kennels.

I took Spartan out again, poor guy's been here since the beginning of February. Not a surprise that he's becoming easily excited and very mouthy, so I did a lot of work on lowering excited responses. Run a few steps stop, click before he can jump, run a few steps ask for a sit, click, repeat. At first he was using me to launch himself into the air, but by the end he stopped totally. I also rewarded him a lot for me petting him without him getting mouth, slight tug on his jowl, mark, reward. He improved a lot from one session, was extremely polite on the leash when I brought him back into the kennels. If folks would just look past his pent up energy from the kennels, but that's not common. :(
