My Little Rescue Project *snake pictures*

Meet Jor, (or Jory), short for Jörmungandr (Your-muhn-gun-dar ) Just think of "Your"

I chose that name because Jor is unsexed, I didn't want to say "him" or "her" and I definitely didn't' want to call Jor "it"

So, I did something stupid as some of you might know and stopped by Petco. Saw a extremely tiny baby who was clearly skinny and under the weather. I couldn't do anything then so I went home and went through my stuff, I had all I needed to set up another tank. (The extras came in handy!)
I didn't want to pay the store, but I was unable to convince them to release him since he was clearly sick and not eating. So.. I cracked and ended up paying for him. $40. Hoping to nurse him back to health and rehome him.

Jor's 2 grams, and maybe 9 inches long, more like 7. Veeeeery small.
So, without further ado, little Jory.

Snapped a picture when I was moving Jor to his/her tank. My hands are quite small.

Jor's set up for now

Sigh, I'm having a hard time not saying "him" lol

What kind of snake is Jor?
I don't know anything at all about snakes and....
I'm not what you would call a snake fan....at all...lol. But this one, i looked at his cute little eyes and he (oops, or she) won me over. Very cute.

I hope you post and let us know how Jor is doing...and more pics, please :D

Snakes grow according to their intake, so I'm very happy that he's eating now! His head looks a bit funky because it was growing while his body stayed the same due to lack of proper care/food. (I'm thinking they stressed the heck out of him and didn't give him a chance to chill so he could eat, snakes usually won't eat and will regurgitate their food when stressed)

Most Corns range from 5-6 feet long, I wouldn't be surprised if Jor stayed in the 2 foot range since he's so itty and his growth is stunted.
They're long but narrow so they don't take up a lot of space.

He kept his food down, which is good! No regurge. When I opened the current today he went o_o at the sun light. When the sun hits them their pupils get pretty tiny.

I took a few more than usual for you :) Jor must please his fan. :D

Another size comparison, and my hands aren't big (I'm 5'2). He also put on a gram! :)

He's getting more spunk to 'im! That's a good sign, means he's getting his energy back.
Image

I fed him the other half. I knew his body could physically take a whole one, but I wasn't sure he had the energy for it. (which seemed to be the case, he struggled with the first half, a little better this time). Also the paper's there to prevent him from ingesting the substrate. Normally I wouldn't care but he's so itty I don't want to risk it.

Wow! Thank you for the pics and the update :D And he's put on a little weight, too!?! That's great! I'm glad to hear Jor has gotten a little more spunk back. How can you find out if Jor is a male or female? Jor is lucky that you rescued him from a certain death....poor little thing. How terrible it must have been. I'm looking forward to the next update

He's got even more spunk in him today! And he looks like he put on some more weight :) I'm debating feeding him a bit more than I planned to so he'll fill that body in faster.

Snakes are commonly sexed in two different ways.

One if "popping" where a finger is placed behind the cloaca and push/roll it up so it causes the genitalia to become exposed. If you see hemipenes pop out, it's a male, if not, female.

Another is the use of a probe, this picture explains it. I'll just post a link, it's a drawing but some might find it bothersome.

He's far too small to do either to, but when he gets older my friend will probably have a vet do it.

Speaking of that, he's going to a friend of mine that's quite far away. So I'll have him for awhile, get him bigger and healthier before shipping. (It's common practice, you can purchase reptile shipping kids from most reptile stores.)

That's very interesting about sexing a snake!!

I can't wait to see him (or her, oops) begin to fill out more!! It's exciting watching Jor progress and get healthier

No pictures yet, but he gained another gram, got a bit longer, and filled out a bit. He's not as delicate anymore.

Cel count me in as a fan, he/she is very cool! I'm shocked that Petco released a ill animal for sale, that is so against policy. Petco is very strict that all ill animals get pulled and to the vet! Our store is really good at that, glad to see the little one is thriving.

It's cool to see them eat, it will be interesting to see how fast he grows.

I'm glad to hear your Petco is on top of things and cares for them properly. Not the case here sadly, I sent the Public Relations Coordinator pictures I took of the sickly animals, from the sounds of it, she's looking into it.

It really is cool to watch them eat, their ability it stretch is amazing, thank you for the support :)
