I spoke to all three vets about gabapentin vs. lyrica. All three felt that Georgia was responding well even when these flare ups have hit. So far, her two BIG flare ups occurred around Christmas 2011 (when I found this board) and now. She's had mild flare ups but nothing like these two. I do keep a journal for the neurologist in case we need to make a change. All three vets were in agreement. I see the neurologist again in October and will ask again. I did ask the emergency neurologist two weeks ago and they had me increase the gabapentin not change the medication yet. I think if she had more chronic flares without long periods of stability it would be more of an issue in their minds. Plus, her allergies really contributed to this big flare up so the antihistamine is also helping a lot. A lot less face rubbing and scratching/biting.
Personally, I hate gabapentin b/c of how it negatively affected me when I took the medication but most of Georgia's pain is from her hips and legs now. That is the medication that I'm working on right now
Also, JACKNYC....thank you so much for the kind words. My mom is really improving. Tomorrow will be the last of her IV antibiotic infusions. I can actually sleep through the night without having to administer one! Not that I'm complaining....I'd do anything for her...but I should be able to leave soon and return to my home. I'm hoping in the next two weeks.
