What breed is my new puppy?

Postby SavaJay on Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:41 pm

Hello everyone! My name is Savannah, I live in Fort Worth, Texas and just recently became a dog owner. I found this adorable sweet puppy in my apartment complex about 5 days ago. I suspect she was abused and abandoned. She has obviously had human contact before and she is skittish when I move to fast towards her. She was also covered in fleas and ticks, has scabs around her neck and her tail is broken. I wasn't planning to keep her but she has completely stolen my heart! Her name is Mishka and she's the cutest, sweetest puppy, but I have no idea what she is!!! Kind of driving me nuts. I am posting some pictures of her and if you know anything about breeds of dogs or anything, please feel free to comment! I showed her to a vet's assistant and she told me she was about 5 months old... that's about all I know! Thank you so much!

Note how elongated her torso is and the long tail. Beagle?

So cute!! Her hair seems short here, but at her ears and behind them it is growing long. I suspect Australian shepherd maybe?

She has a brown tint to her fur, also huge paws for her size. Corgi?

Welcome to the Daily Puppy from Oliver & Henry, and their Mum, in London, Ontario.

It's rather difficult to tell what sort of mix you may have. You did say that a "Vet Assistant" looked at her. I do hope, considering all of the issues you say she has, that she has been thoroughly vetted. If not, you really should have her checked out as quickly as possible, particularly for parasites, as well as to make sure she is up to date with her vaccinations.

A Vet should be able to tell you far more about her mix than we can with the photos, at least at this age. You also described scabs around her neck which could be indicative of Mange or a skin parasite such as ringworm. I can't stress enough how important it is that you have this puppy checked out thoroughly.

Kudos to you for rescuing Mishka! Do let us know how you make out at the Vet's.
