VIRGIL - In Memory of a Loving Hound

Postby Oliver & Henry's Mum on Sun Oct 23, 2011 5:00 pm

Sadly on September 22nd, 2011, Virgil went to the Rainbow Bridge after a valiant fight against Lymphoma. His Mum, Liz and his canine sister Daisy are still deeply mourning. Fortunately, they have one another but they miss their boy.

While Liz still comments regularly on the Front Page, she is unable at this time to even begin to start a thread for Virgil, and with her permission, I am starting one so that she can read it when she is able.

Virgil had the best life with his Mum and Daisy, and I am sure he is chasing rabbits and playing in the fresh grass at the Rainbow Bridge. His "voice" can still be heard by those who loved him on this earth. "Barr-oooooooooooo"

Long May You Run Virgil! We will all help your Mummy through this difficult time with you as an angel to watch over her.

Liz, you have my sincerest, most profound sympathy. You are gracious to others and always offer support when anyone needs it. I only hope we are able to return the same when you need it the most.

Love and hugs,
Deborah, Oliver & Henry ♥ xo

Baroooo to you, Virgil. May the trails be long, the scents be many, and the raccoons in trees endless.
Well done, Virgil. Good dog.

Liz, No words can take away the sadness you feel,
but I hope it helps you to know there are others who understand and care.

Liz, please know that we all know the pain in your heart and the very big hole now in your life. Just know, when you are ready, we're all here for you. ♥

You were a very good dog, Virgil. From now on, every time I hear the sound of a hound, I will think of you.

Deb, thank you for starting this loving memory of my boy Virgil. Today is the first day I can read this thread and not have to close right away. You are all so very, very special people, I thank everyone from the bottom and top of my heart for the kind and sincere words you all give so freely.

My little nephew, John, recalls the life and illness of Virgil every day. Shows how sensitive he is to who we love. Love that boy! I'll write more later as the Sears man is coming, hopefully to declare my Bosch washer dead forever and give me a replacement. I will share on another thread sometime....do not buy a Bosch washer.......Love to all of you from Liz and Daisy (scott too but that is from a different world).

PS took pictures of my Daisy girl yesterday, making no promises, but.........

Liz, thank you for sharing Virgil with us, and for giving me permission to start this thread. I knew everyone wanted a place to express their love for you and Virgil.

Your nephew sounds like a lovely young man, and we'll also listen to your advice about Bosch Washers (and Sears!).

We would love to see more pictures of sweet Daisy, but again, all in good time. No one is in a hurry and as you can see, we are all here for you.

The only thing you have to do Liz is be good to yourself and take care of you, and Daisy, but that goes without saying, although I just said it, so it didn't go without saying, but you get the idea. 8)

We're here for you, always.

There are photos of our dogs on the refrigerator, they all carry great significance, as all of you know. So every day I get to see my handsome Virgil looking healthy and happy. This is very comforting. Since Daisy is in the shots too, I am reminded of life. We are just fine these days and really enjoying our walks together and sometimes with John as well. My girl is good, usually by my side but also keeping her dad company on ocassion. I also can only think of all our passed dogs being together as their photos are also on the fridge and all over the house. They are having a ball together.

About the Bosch, quickly, after two years of problems with the machine, this last tech seems to have come up with the right answer. It does NOT perform well with "flood control" hoses. If it malfunctions again, I will let you know and if it floods I will also let you know....OMG!!!! By the way, we have had a Sears maintenance plan for over 30 yrs.. on appliances, have no complaints on them (I guess).

Life goes on, and thank all of you for being you. Love the Daily Puppy!

Liz, I'm very sorry to read about your Virgil. Take comfort in that he's running around in full health and glory. And maybe he's even met up with my Nugget. I know all you're going through, because it's a pain we're sharing. But we have to take our comfort where we can, whether it be with pictures, or the smell of a blanket, or a clipping of fur. Whatever gets you through this time is a good thing. Fortunately, we both have other dogs to help us through. -Robin

As the anniversary of Virgil's passing approaches, the pain is still there and I will of course forever miss him. I have relived the days up until his passing and I am hoping the year to mourn rule will apply. We have the best memories of Virgil as well, but that pain is still as hurting as ever.

Here's to my beautiful big boy, Virgil Budd! 8)

Also a big thanks continues to go out to all of our DP friends, I really don't know how it would have been without all of you, you saved me!

It seems we all have to make it that year mark. That doesn't mean we miss and grieve any less, the memories will never die. Vigil was loved and and still is, love never dies. May Vigil be your angel looking down! ♥♥

Liz, you've been very much on my mind lately. I didn't realize that the anniversary of Virgil's passing was so close. It barely seems like a year, and yet in some ways, it seems like a very long year. Funny how that works. :|

Kian put it perfectly. I suppose the first year of losing one that we love so much is the hardest as it is the first of everything in that year that we don't have them with which to share life's events. Many times the boys and I have discussed how it's sometimes harder to lose one of our dogs as not everyone truly understands what that is like, whereas they do when it comes to our humans.

Virgil IS much loved and will always be.

Daisy is still your sweet girl, and now you have Buddy and little Levon. I'm quite sure Virgil had a paw in filling your heart and home with even more love. :D

Right now, I am helping my neighbour with the loss of his Chocolate Lab, whom I used to babysit. She passed very suddenly on Saturday at the age of 14. He is single and she was truly his life. As you can imagine, he is inconsolable right now. It's a difficult time and not one from which we bounce back quickly. In some ways, it was easier losing my Father than my dog Emma, or sweet Sally. That sounds ridiculous, but the world understood my grief over the loss of my Father, but after a week or two of Emma or Sally being gone, no one even remembered.

I am sure this month is going to be a difficult one for you, but just know that we dog people haven't forgotten sweet Virgil, or you, and our hearts are truly with you. I know how much you miss your boy. :(

Now I understand why you've been on my mind so much lately.
