Misc. Idle Chit Chat - Part II (The Sequel)

Postby kian on Fri Sep 07, 2012 9:27 am

Not sure what happened, there was plenty of spam on the Chit Chat. I started to delete the post one by one and hit one that caused the whole thread to go nuts. It must of had some type of spam that deleted the thread or won't allow us back into it. I see the thread is there, in the logs it says it is gone.

Lots of good chat and memories there, if we can't get it back, time for a new one. Stinkin Spammers!

I hope you can fix it, I have never seen a thread that long on any forum, so it would be such a shame to end it! It would almost be like losing a historic artifact...Why in the world would someone spam a puppy site?

That is just stinking wrong. There are so many wonderful memories in that thread. I'm hoping they are not lost forever.

Hi, everyone. Just popping in to say HELLO

Something has jammed that thread indeed! I've never seen that happen before.

We can't even get into it to delete it and yet it appears as a "hot topic" on the Board. Hopefully the Admin will either delete it or restore it. I noticed that there was a lot of spam removed first thing this morning.

Perhaps we should re-title this thread to read "Miscellaneous Idle Chit Chat - Part II (The Sequel)" or something like that so at a glance people will realize it is a continuation of the first one. I'm just "spit balling" ideas.

Thanks for starting a new/old thread Kian! :D

I sent a PM to Admin to see if it can be recovered, it's still there just not able to access it. If we can get it, then we can delete this one, if not, feel free to change the title! I will let you know when I hear from Admin.

I started back to work a few hours, I think I like not working so much better!

I don't blame you Kian! Are you still working with the Juveniles?

As I said in a PM to you, for a short week, this has felt like a long week, but then the first week of school always does. My wallet is much lighter and I know I haven't even been hit "hard" yet on that score!

The joys of raising children. :D

OH, wow! that's crazy about MICC part 1!

Hope your boys have a good year at school, Deb. My kids would always spring a big school purchase on me at the very last minute, "But I need $150 for the calculator by tomorrow or I'll get an F!" :x

LOL Janis! It does go something like that around here too. I've already started asking what is upcoming as I just know it will be pictures, calendars, etc., and they'll both need money for something, and a lot of it, soon! :D

They both had a great start to their first week. Ben found out that he has made the Dean's Honour Roll (for the first time in his life!!!) so I'm very proud of him, as he is of himself. 8) Elliot is well into the swing of things in Grade 11. We generally don't have "Middle School" here, so Secondary School, or High School is Grade 9 through Grade 12 inclusive. Apparently, being a "Niner" is just the worst thing, as it was when I went to High School.

We had a very exciting afternoon around here. Last weekend, my neighbour's Lab whom I babysit, Kémi, passed away very suddenly at the age of 14. He was so distraught. Today, he brought home a new little Chocolate Lab girl, named "Kaylie"! She is absolutely gorgeous and already the apple of her Daddy's eye. ♥

Elliot and I managed to meet her just as they came home, and she is precious!!! Kaylie hasn't cried once, and won't stop wagging her little tail. She even did her business, 3 times, on the grass as soon as he took her from the car. I took several photos of her on my phone, but I'm not sure how to upload them yet onto my computer. I will once I figure out how.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Thanks Tracy! :D

Tweedledee, this thread is exactly what it suggests it is. It's about miscellaneous goings on in our lives; sometimes dog related and sometimes not.

By the way, I'm Deborah, and as you may have noticed "Deerie Me" is Tracy. Not everyone uses their real first name, and for those who don't, we generally come up with a shortened version of their user name, if it's a long one.

Right now, I'm watching the Women's Final of the U.S. Open Tennis!!!

Thanks for the clarification, Deborah and Tracy!

My real name is Samar (pronounced Sah-mer kinda like the season) its probably a lot easier to call me by my first name, rather than saying Tweedledee all the time

Ooooo Chocolate lab puppy to babysit?? You are so lucky!

Hmmm...something miscellaneous that happened to me recently...

Well, I just had my first lab in my Animal Science class, (I'm a pre-vet student) and it was really awesome! We got the feel the inside of a very mellow cow's stomach. The idea was to get a good first hand experience with the digestive tract of ruminants (cows are ruminants, which are basically a class of animals who have 4-compartment stomach which has the capacity to digest cellulose from plants....I think another member, RubyJeanMom, has goats those are also ruminants :D !)

Anyway we went up to this really sweet old dairy cow who was fistulated, meaning that she had a little hole with a bottle cap on her side, through which you could put your arm to feel the four compartments of her stomach.

I snapped a picture of her, she was the sweetest old girl! I think her name was Stardust, thats what her tag said.
Don't worry, it doesn't hurt her to feel her stomach, there are no nerve endings down there. Also fistulated cows are less at risk of getting bloat (deadly gas buildup in stomachs) and they live longer than regular cows.

Next week we get to observe suckling behavior in piglets, which is really a fancy way of saying we are going to a swine farm to play with baby pigs! SOOOO EXCITED!!

OMG, piglets are the cutest little things!
How very cool, Samar,to be studying to be a vet! Since you're visiting farm animals, are you thinking of becoming a large animal vet?

Yup, piglets are awesome, I have never been up close and personal with one so I am really excited for this Thursday's lab!

I am actually leaning more towards being a small animal vet, but this class is Animal Science 101 so its like a foundation class which covers both small and large animals. I wanted to take the Companion Animal Science 101 as well but I had to take Econ instead to fill general education requirements (boooo)
