Of course I found this thread right after posting in another one, asking where somebody lives, LOL! This is great, I've already learned so much about places that I really hadn't thought about much, and about some that I THOUGHT I knew lots about...

My sil used to live in Burlington, VT, now lives in Berwick, Maine. A daughter of mine lives in MA, a son in Dallas, TX, another son in Minnesota, and another son in Denver. Sisters in Lincoln, NE and Tucson, AZ. Family get togethers are a challenge.

My husband and I both grew up in Nebraska, which is in the middle of the US, and I think is best known for its college football team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Farming is a big deal there.

We're a retired military couple who have been stationed all over; Montana, South Dakota, Okinawa, Japan, Alaska, Kansas and finally, New Mexico. Now we live in Colorado, on what's called the Western Slope.

Colorado attracts people who like doing things outdoors, like camping, fishing, skiing, hiking, even ice climbing. Then there's the ATV crowd, horseback riders, bikers... I personally am not athletic, but I do love our beautiful weather. We do have distinct seasons, but here in our town, which is in a little valley, we have a fairly moderate climate, with most of the snow and cold happening in our surrounding mountains. They call it the banana zone, LOL...

We've lived here for 11 years, in a nice little kind of older neighborhood. Lots of dogs in the area, and sadly, lots who run loose. Our Steve McQueen was attacked by a dog about 6 months ago, while Steve was ON leash, with my husband, resulting in a $250 vet bill, which we were reimbursed for eventually. Steve being Steve, he was ready to go immediately afterward, but geeze..

Whoops, off topic here, sorry.

Our town is about 14,000 people, and while we get some tourism, mainly it is farming and ranching right now. My big gripe is that our airport is rather limited and there are NEVER any special flight deals out.

I live in Anderson, California.

I honestly dislike Anderson, at least the city portion. The cities rates for many things aren't that great, the county we're in has the highest rate of Chlamydia, high rates of teen pregnancy, lower employment rate that state average, etc, etc.
It's wet, cold, and stormy in the winter, rarely snows, and in the summer it's blazing hot.

But the outside cities, the ones that are less city and more country... God I love them. We have some gorgeous mountains, beautiful lakes, I would LOVE to get a house up in the mountains here. When it snows, it's just gorgeous. Shasta caverns, Mount Lassen, Mount Shasta, Yosemite National Park. And on the coast, the gorgeous Redwoods.

And the city under us (so to speak) is just huge open yellow fields, and I love the country, but it's not "fun" to walk through due to everything being so dry, many Rattlesnakes (which I LOVE snakes, but obviously this could be the end of a dog or you if you're not careful) tons of stickers, thorns, ticks. But I still find it gorgeous.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Pictures of course :D

This is where we go for lure sports, (yes Dakota's in that picture somewhere chasing a lure) it's a mix between the fields and the forest. Considering the field is actually green.

The only thing I like about the city I live in, Anderson, is the park. It's gorgeous if you go back into the farther back area. But sadly it's a bit dangerous for us because of there being so many loose dogs, laws are not well reinforced here.
These are old pictures, when Dakota was about 8 months old.

Up in the mountains, this is the part of the North State I fell in love with. (Another old picture from puppyhood, sadly we've only been able to go to places like this... maybe 3 times. My family likes to go camping in commercial camp grounds, which I HATE... no peace and serenity. I go to the mountains to get away from the people, yuh know?)
Image
Road in the middle of nowhere, road 4-wheelers, horses, and at first bikes (obviously that didn't work out) up the hill, down and up 3 times and didn't see a single soul.

My grandfather's creek, the beautiful part of the country/dry fields. Near water it's green, then if you get maybe 100 feet away, it's all dead again

I'm getting that small world feeling. I just googled where you are and where my friend lived in California. I thought it was in the same general area because you've mentioned Mount Shasta in the past and I visited there when I visited her. Cel you live only about 10 MILES away from my friend in Redding. That's amazing.

Stevey nice post of your area, and wow what travels you have done.

Cel I am highly familiar with your town and area, having family up in the Shasta and Burney areas. I have been to the Redwoods on many trips, they are beautiful. It is a small world Tracy!

Is your friend a Deerie/lure sports person? I know quite a few around here.

And indeed! If only some of my favorite folks online lived closer. :D

I love this thread. It's so interesting learning about where everyone is from. I've actually been to many of the US places mentioned.

I've lived in Texas my whole life, originally on the Gulf Coast and now in North Texas. TX is known for being, well.....big. For those of you who are not that familiar with TX or the US in general, I currently live about 300 miles (~480 kms) from where I grew up, and I'm still in the same state. TX is bigger that France, about twice the size of Germany. TX is known as the Lone Star State, which signifies TX being an independent republic.

Texans are very proud to be Texans. I've seen more that a few bumper stickers saying something like, "Never ask someone if they're from Texas. If they are, they'll let you know. If they are not, don't embarrass them by asking." And here is a Texan's map of the US:

Asking someone to describe TX is asking a lot; it is just too diverse. We have beaches and deserts, grasslands and forests, and don't forget about the hill country. About the only thing we don't have are snow-capped mountains. TX is often portrayed as cowboys, ranches, and oil wells in movies and television, but it's also full of modern cities. In fact, we have 3 of the top 10 most populous cities in the US -- Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas -- with each having well over 1 million people. I'm pretty sure Austin and El Paso are close too.

I live in Ft Worth, the sister city to Dallas, part of what's known as the DFW metroplex, which has a population of 6+ million. Ft Worth has the convenience of big city life, but with a small-town feel. My "front yard" has a view of downtown skyscrapers, while my "backyard" are lakes and parks filled with trees and hiking, running and biking trails. Just west of downtown is a modern military base, and just north there's a daily cattle drive. I'll get some pictures up one of these days, maybe even of the longhorn cattle drive. :D

I love the Map and I love Texas! I have been there a time or two, we do plan a trip to San Antonio one day as we are in New Mexico now. When I was in Houston, I saw big proud signs with the Texas Star on it. It's a great state indeed and I do love a Longhorn Cattle Drive!! Not being a city gal myself, the small towns of Texas do appeal to me. Would love to see more pictures!

Hi, I live in Brockton, Massachusetts. It is "The City of Champions". It truly is:) The things that I like about it is that we have alot of Dunkin Donuts! Another thing is that there are some really nice neighborhoods. I live in one of them. Before my house was built, it used to be woods, so my neighborhood is all peace and quiet; away from the main road. The things that I do not like about it are that there are soooooo many buildings that have grafiti, and have been abandoned, and it makes this city look kind of poor:( And also that there is a part of town my family calls "Druggieville" because ther are people that are on the streets doing drugs and askeing for money to buy drugs. Oh my gosh, we used to be able to walk on the streets and just not worry about being shot or being encountered by druggies. What is this world changing into??????
