Little Lime

Postby pawsforthought on Sun Dec 16, 2012 3:41 pm

Little Lime Photographic - that's the name of the business my friend and I are in the process of setting up

We're starting off with domestic animals but we would like to branch out into weddings, people etc but we'll see how it goes.

We're in the UK so things we post on here aren't necessarily going to apply to everyone but the main thing is we would like as many opinions as possible for some things, eg if we have two edits of the same picture and we can't decide between them.

It's exciting at the moment, we posted on our Facebook page about needing pictures of dogs and wanting to come along with people to take pictures of their fur babies and we had some immediate interest. Even though we said it'd be free, we got a text asking how much we'd charge :D I replied though saying it was free and we'd send a free digital copy of any photos she liked, but it was flattering that she WOULD have paid :)

Here's our DeviantArt page - http://littlelimephotos.deviantart.com/
Here's our Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/LittleLimePhotographic
Both links contain our up to date portfolio (though DeviantArt has the images saved in a higher quality than Facebook)

And here's a couple of pictures we like :D
These pictures were not all taken by ME, my friend and I take pictures and edit them together

Paws,Allways remember the rule of threes,it can make the difference between a good photograph and a great photograph. :P

With today's cameras you can automatically bracket any shot you wish and select the shot you like and there is no film cost. The price of memory cards has come down dramatically as you may have noticed (it is about 8usd here)...An 8GB will last you forever  Any successful photographer takes a lot of shots to get that great one.

After his death,Steiglitz who was reknowned for his work, left a whole chest full of his bad negatives

Kian - thanks for the like :D and the name was a hard one for us to decide on so we used random name generators to come up with the idea for it :P so it has no relevance to anything and is completely random, which sums us up anyway lmao

Nileska - The rule of thirds is a tough one to get right all the time but we are taking it into account, don't you worry :P Try telling Finn or Milo to stay in one third of a picture though ;)
Digital photography is awesome :P I take about 200 shots in a day as I've said before and whittle it down to 1 or 2 pictures I really like, same goes for Charlotte so I don't know where we'd be without it.

Nezza- Thanks :) the one of Finn in colour won him dog of the day on another site XD someone on DeviantArt told us to nominate him and we did. Turns out the person who told us to do that is the very person who judges the dogs and selects one as dog of the day. She also wrote a really lovely personal message saying why he won :)

Bad weather recently meant we couldn't meet with the person we were going to meet with to take pictures of her dogs :( she's still in for after Christmas though, along with at least one other person (possibly two)

Hoping to get pictures of other breeds

Paws, the rule thirds is not all that difficult, divide your photo into 3 equal sections vertically and horizontally. The point of interest should be at ah intersection of the lines. The lines themselves can be used to place a subject,example...the horizon in a landscape looks best when placed at the bottom line.We have all seen a technically good photo which does not look quite right to us.Try useing two fingers and do a quick vertical then horizontal swipe to locate the points of interest.

Remember you can shoot now and crop later, photoshop is your friend. Some cameras have a grid in the viewfinder or offer it as an accessory which makes things a bit easier....Good luck with your endevour and Happy Hollidays.

I know what you mean but sometimes the issue is with closeups - what part of the animal/person to have on the line? some say eyes, some say nose, is it personal preference or is there an actual answer as with the golden rule? Hmmm.
