Richard, warmest wishes and prayers to you and your OH. It sounds like you've been through a lot this year. I hope that the new year is a good one for you.

You made me laugh with your Husky acting like it's a "day at the beach". Willie LOVED cold weather and snow. He would roll around in it with the biggest smile on his face. I used to call winter time "willie weather." It's so hard to believe that he's been gone a whole year now.

Tomorrow is going to be very wet here...all the way into Christmas Day and on into Wednesday too!

Since it's just the two of us this year for Christmas, we're going out to eat tomorrow night. The OH is making Christmas Day dinner here...we didn't want to have two big dinners cooked here at home for just the two of us, so we figured going out Christmas Eve made the most sense.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!!!!

Richard you are indeed a delight! Sorry to hear you have to undergo dialysis and OH is in the hospital. So glad your son is helping out. I too send well wishes! It's cold here, looks like Winter has hit most of North America along with the winds. My two pups are loving it, the more snow the better.

LOL...no Mayan sightings here!

Nezza having a tree come down on the house is a scary thought, I hope that never happens. I too think we will go out Christmas Eve, I have Turkey and Gravy vacummed packed from Thanksgiving I will heat up on Christmas day. No sense to make a big fuss for two of us as well. Christmas will be a quiet day, I have a new book I plan on reading by the fire that day.

Merry Christmas to all!

I have noticed that I have not seen hide nor hair of Margie,RJM or Phytie recently.I hope everything is allright with them.

Things are falling into place here and the OH is scheduled for surgery Friday, let's hope they can fix it this time,
She is 15 years younger than me and I got her to be my trophy wife  ( besides she had 3 nice dogs and a pretty good son )

Nezza I envy your home in the mountains, that would be my idea of heaven on earth. My paternal grandfather grew up in Blount county just south of Knoxville,a bit north of you I believe.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND to ALL A GOOD NIGHT....( where have I heard that before ? )

Nezza that is very pretty, looks like my place!

Richard I do pray all will go well on Friday for the OH. The rest of the gang is fine, they hang out on Facebook not here anymore.

Looks like a White Christmas Eve here for us, it's snowing pretty good now. I had to go into town and wanted to run and out of the mall as I hate that place. I ran into friends and we ended up talking for a long time, it was fun. By then the mall had filled up and the crowds were going strong. Home early afternoon and it is nice to veg out and not worry about a thing for a day.

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Christmas Day!!!!

Richard, my wishes and prayers are with you! I hope everything goes well with OH's surgery.

We do love our house here. It is VERY remote, serene and away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. This is from our porch recently...

and our porch...my FAVORITE place!!!

We are familiar with Blount County. We got to Pigeon Forge a lot and we have to drive through Knoxville on our way there. We have explored Knoxville a little bit...and i'm sure we will explore it much more once we move to Pigeon Forge, as it is only about a half hour away!

Kian...i wish it were a white Christmas here this year! It really makes it festive! I hope you're staying warm!!!

Today is Christmas movies, Christmas music, lots of yummy food and happiness!!! Even though i'm not with my family this year...it has turned out to be a wonderful holiday!!!!

XOXO! <3

WOW Nezza,Gorgeous place,I had a really good friend who was an expert woodsman,we spent a lot of time hunting and fishing together before his untimely death in 1962.I continued on afterward and spent many nights in the woods with my Coonhounds but it just wasent the same...When I was a kid, although we lived in a city there was a woods and a river nearby where my friends and I often played..My grandfather often visited and we would walk there wile he taught me about all the trees, plants, bugs and critters that inhabited the place. So you can see I have had a lifelong love of the " boondocks". I think it may be hereditary or something

Kian...I am also fond of your neck of the woods and since I am a student of Archaeology, Mesa Verde is one of my favourite places. I could not negotiate the steps anymore so I guess I have been there for the last time....I do have lots of great pictures though.Cest la vie and all that jazz.

I have given the person with the JRT chapter and verse on what is entailed in the training and ownership of a service dog.i once found a lost GSD,after extensive efforts to locate her owner came to naught I trained her in basic obedience I then offered her to an organiseation which provides service dogs to the handicapped .They would take care of the advanced training and placement...She passed her entry tests with flying colors and was accepted. The liked her progress so well that
they kept her longer for some additional training. Finally she joined a young College student who was wheelchair bound and lived in Chicago.I was invited to the graduation and placement ceremony ( about 100 miles away ) but on the day of the event there was an ice storm and I was unable to make the trip.I would have really loved to see her one more time and met her new owner.

Hope everyone is haveing a good time today. We are going to the Hospital to visit the OH later and take a little Christmas to her.She is in good spirits and looking foreword to haveing the problem fixed this Friday.I hope it works this time

BTW A snowstorm is waiting in the wings here with beaucoup snow and expected to arrive this evening

Remote in the woods is MY kind of living! I don't need the Malls, the shopping centers, the movie theaters, none of it. I like that kind of quiet living and your porch is perfect. I have been to Knoxville back in the College days gone by....

Yes we did have a White Christmas and another storm is moving in. We took a drive up to Colorado to see a friends son and it was a beautiful drive. Richard we haven't made it to Mesa Verde yet, I would love to see it through your eyes. You have a wealth of knowledge we all can learn from. I will think of you when we finally get to go, plans are for this Spring. We aren't very far from it, so no excuses for us!

Richard I do hope all goes well for your OH, it will be nice to visit her on Christmas. I'm sure she wishes to be home.

Thanks for the info on that Service Dog. So many people get "Service Dog" and "Therapy Dog" mixed up.

Good Morning after Christmas Day, Everyone

Richard, i just love reading your stories. I find them to be very interesting and full of knowledge. :D I find myself wanting to read more and more!

We had another strong rain storm come through here last night...brought a lot more wind with it, too. The creek is running again this morning and i'm to be at work for 10. Expecting snow mixed with rain today, also  Needless to say, it's been very wet around here lately.

Kian, i'm glad you had a white Christmas. It seems to complete the picture, doesn't it? :)

We had a nice quiet Christmas. I really missed seeing my family an awful lot and the OH missed Cristofer terribly. We made the best of it, though.

Hope everyone has a safe, happy day! Stay warm!

Great day today! It all started yesterday......quick version:

Go to work, hear of a puppy being taken to the shelter because the owners have to relocate and could not find a dog friendly rental. I see picture of puppy....no way! I must have puppy and find a home. We get puppy, puppy not leaving though I have had many who want him. NO way....puppy stays! Here is puppy:

Named Jax, I call him Jackson. He is a 10 month pom/yorkie mix with blue merle, how cool is that.
He doesn't eat much, he is neutered and UTD on vacs, clean bill of health and NO OB yet, I am on it! Here is the new addition to the Kian Pack! The reason I say he doesn't eat much, my dad said I was going to be dog poor! I had to explain to him all the 1st year stuff as been done, he was free and he really doesn't eat much.

I quit my contract with Petco today, It is sad to leave my clients but I could not abide by the new Managers rules. It's all good as I can go public with being a Private Trainer now! He didn't like that....oh well! He also didn't like that I was considering opening up my own Boarding Kennel...my response... NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! I was in true form today, don't mess with me.

Upgraded my internet to 4G!! WooHoo..... Great day. 8)

Thank you all it is good to have friends like you...I don't see my dogshow gang any more and I miss them...Also miss the DP regulars who have defected to Facebook,I do NOT go there.

Tracy,Thank you it is allways to hear from the UK,home of my ancestors , The founder of the American branch migrated in 1640,the family name was spelled two ways even within the same household,Bird or Byrd,( the colonial spelling.) My name is the original spelling and my namesake the famous Admiral and South Pole explorer used the y version.

Meanwhile back at the ranch....We brought Christmas to the OH at the hospital ( our son,his OH and our not so small Grand son who is Deputy commander of the cadet corps for the local fire department as well as a second year high school student.)
Gave the OH her new IPad which is a new edition and superior to mine..She was DELIGHTED ! She has a Nook which I gave her last year, she uses it constantly, downloading 3 or 4 books weekly, A former Teacher and renowned artist she is a voracious reader she also worked for a local bookstore at one point as did the NSSS during high school and college.

Hope your business is flourishing,I find that people are sitting on their purse nowadays in these uncertain times at least here in my neck of the woods..I is allways good to hear from 'the 'Homeland' :D

Kian,I think I hear a recording of "Take This Job and Shove It" playing somewhere in the background...BRAVO!, I think your talents were being wasted by a doggie fast food shop which didn't appreciate what they had..I have found that the young managers of such places tend to be quite full of themselves...If you can find the facility's it better to have your own classes.

Kudos on the Yorkie+ rescue, how could one not save that Adoreable little guy..just tell dear old Dad that if that pup is going to eat you out of house and house and home that you are closer to bankruptcy than you thought  One more critter is not going to make a significan difference.

We are up to our 'kazootie' in snow here,as I have said before my lone remaining Husky thinks its a day at the beach.

Anyway,Upward and Onward....Enjoy the New Year 8)

The business is doing ok thanks Richard. We are closed now until Feb as there is no-one here to sell to. It is a chance to recharge batteries and refresh ideas before our third season.

I'm glad you managed to get to the OH and provide Christmas for her in hospital. I imagine the Ipad will be invaluable to her while she is stuck in bed.I should think there was quite a party atmosphere there with all the family in tow. Did you sneak in some turkey and all the trimmings or is hospital food in the US better than the UK? It has been the butt of many jokes about the NHS over the years and as budgets get tighter I don't see it getting any better. I hope the OH gets well soon and manages to get home to you and the husky soon.

Whereabouts did your ancestors come from? Is that information that has been lost over time? 1640 was a while ago!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. I HOPE WE ALL HAVE A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS 2013.
