Puppy toys

Postby SherBear1947 on Thu Jan 03, 2013 1:05 pm

What are some safe, ordinary, household item toys that can be given to a puppy?

Ice cubes are great. Honestly I can't think of household items that are puppy friendly. It's best to spend a few dollars to ensure your pups safety.

Do you think plastic bottles are safe?

Sure, just watch for breakage and if your pup gets the lid off, take the lid away.

One of my Husky puppies once arrived in the living room towing a length of toilet paper, the other end was still attached to the roll some 30 feet away  This was the same pup who tried to get a drink and fell into the toilet (that was good for a lot of squealing and treading water).yeah I know...KEEP THE LID DOWN ! . .As we are training puppies THEY are training us.

If you could avoid then please avoid the household things as these could harm them otherwise the bottles which you think are not sharp from the neck could be used but be very careful about these too.

One of my puppies favorite toys was the empty roller core from paper towels, toilet paper etc. The whole litter would steal it from each other. They loved the sound it made as they banged it around and it was fun to chew on...I removed it when it became too mangled. All I had to do was tap it against the ex pen and they would come running.

Plastic soft drink bottles sans cap are also good for a bit if entertainment (replace them when the get too mangled)

You DO have to be careful about leaving shoes, socks, underwear or anything else with your scent within reach, all of these things are considered fair game to your puppy...
