We have an Aussie/Golden Retriever mix. She has always been shy around strangers, but very loyal to her family. As she has gotten older she seems to tolerate more being around people she doesn't know, but on our vet's advice we have never forced the issue. Just let your dog make the first move, the more you bring her around people, the better she will become. We started taking our dog to a park nearby and walking her at least 3-4 times a week in addition to the routine walk. At first, she was very shy and timid, and now, while she doesn't approach anyone, she does not shy away from people. Aussies are extremely loyal to their owners, and family...ours is truly a " velcro dog" ---she's stays with us at all times when we are home.Just give it some time, she will work out fine.
