Douglas' First Birthday!! (updated)

Today is Douglas' 3 month birthday, and as I was clearing out the camera's memory card and flipping through the pictures, it's clear how much he's grown! When we got him at 6.5 wks, he was almost 16 lbs. Now at 3 months he's almost 35 lbs!!

We took Dug hiking for the 2nd time! He did great off-leash, and didn't even roll in mud this time. Dug leaves no man (or woman behind). If he is hiking with more than one person, he always politely waits for the last person. In fact, he won't move forward until the last person catches up!

We thought that perhaps his ears may perk up from the husky/shepherd in him, but it's clear at 3 mo. that his ears will be lazily floppy just like his daddy's! Right around the 11 week mark, I realized that Dug has stopped nipping for the most part. The only time he gets mouthy is when Max riles him up during rough housing. All my worrying about Dug growing into a biter was for nothing! He's got a sweet, gentle personality and wouldn't harm a soul (on purpose).

A little siesta while adopted Ma and Pa watch some TV. First puppy classes were yesterday--Dug aced them! The energy level of the other puppies surprised me. Our Duggie was one of the youngest (and biggest), but also the most well-behaved! The trainer had us giving him treats to teach him "sit," but since he had mastered it already at home, it was as if he got free treats! As his humans, we still aren't trained enough to do "look" yet

We've noticed that Dug has started to get this "mane" or "doghawk" of coarse hair down his spine, with the puppy fuzz remaining on the rest of his body. I wonder how his fur will change as he grows!

Thank Deborah! Douglas isn't so big on doing tricks, though. So far he's learned "sit," "poopie," "lay down," "wait," and "come." He also knows "no" but that isn't really a trick! He loves giving us his paw, but not when we ask for it!

I haven't posted an update on Douglas for a looooong looong time! So here are some of his milestones and achievements along with pictures. It is so surreal to look back on the older pictures and to see how SMALL he was!



(7 weeks):
I recently dug up this video of Douglas (no pun intended ) of when he was just 7 weeks old... humping an inflatable beach ball! Oh right, I also made this website for one of my summer classes. Unfortunately I no longer update it, but it has some gems such as an image gallery with pictures of Douglas' parents!



4 months:
Graduates from puppy class!

Hikes to the top of a mountain...again!




5.5 months: Weighs 82.2 lbs! Learns how to heel



6 months:
Goes hiking with best friend Samus.


Explores the deliciousness of kitty roca for the first time ever

Still thinks he's 15 lbs and can fit in the kitty bed...


Learns how to "give footie" and "other footie."



7 months: Learns "get your chewy" ...from ANYWHERE in the house!

Weighs 97.6 lbs!

Learns the command "down... now all the way down," where he lays down and then lays his HEAD down as well. He naturally likes putting his head down (I heard it was a calming behavior), so we just trained him to do it on command, or rather he trained up to give him cookies for something he enjoys doing anyway



7.5 months: Weighs 102 lbs.

Loses his "manhood."



8 months:
Has first sleepover ever with Samus! Tries to fit her entire head in his mouth D:

First Halloween! Dresses up as Super Duggie and WINS the DP Howloween Woof of the Week!




9 months: Weighs 110+ lbs!!!!!

OH MY!!!! I loved the first video...that was hilarious, and he is just such a cutie.

I also love the border and wonder how you did that.

He has grown SO much in the past few months, and is just beautiful. What a handsome fellow indeed. I'll enjoy seeing the other videos later, but don't have time at the moment.

I loved Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z as a kid xD that made my day. I want a Dragon ball now.

It also makes me happy to know that if Douglas humped at 7 weeks then it is perfectly normal that Teddy will occasionally attempt to hump my leg at 13 weeks.

Interestingly he only liked humping the Dragonball LOL! Since we got him he's tried to hump our legs only a handful of times

1 year!

For Douglas' birthday we went to the mountains for a romp in the snow. We had a great time! Here is the full photo album for anyone who is interested.

From 15 lbs to 150+ lbs, Douglas has grown so much not only in size but also in maturity. We're so happy to have him as a part of our family, and wish for many more happy years to come!

This thread was so much fun to look back on and catch up! My he has grown from a most adorable puppy to such a handsome boy. Your summer hiking pictures are giving me hiking fever! The snow pics look fun, what a great time he is having. Unlike Douglas and my dogs, I am sick of winter. Still looks like a fun hike!

♥ HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY DOUGLAS! ♥

What a handsome boy, who is turning into a lovely young man, right before our eyes. I absolutely loved the photo of Dug walking ahead of you, in amongst the snow laden Evergreens, looking over his shoulder to see where his Mum was.

I am sending all my love to Douglas, along with belly rubs and chest strokes. I'm sure he had a wonderful weekend celebrating his first birthday. Keep those photos coming as I just love to see them all, especially the progression. He is "take my breath away" gorgeous!

Thank you for your lovely comments! Douglas isn't due for his immunization booster shots until June, but we're thinking about taking him in just to use the scale at the vet's (this guy won't fit on any normal household scale). We're thinking he's at least 150lbs now... still can't believe how huge he's gotten!
