An 8-year old's Puppy Journal: Lexy

Postby Angie-lah on Mon Jan 19, 2009 10:48 am

May I introduce you to my daughter. She has been wanting to write on Daily Puppy, so I thought I would let her try for this. She enjoys writing stories, loves animals, and being silly. You may have to endure the same stories from her point of view, but I think this is a great way to keep her interested in writing and safely meet other people who have the same interests as she does.....Here goes.

Hi! My name is Madeline. Every one of my friends are wondering
How my new puppy is doing. Her name is Lexy. She does not really act like a puppy…..
At first!! When we first got her, she was de-hydrated. So I was thinking, that’s why she was not acting like a normal puppy. She grew very fast. My other dog, Jake, passed away on August 20th.
My mom said that Lexy would be my favorite dog because I would get to see her get bigger and
bigger. But I specifically told her, Jake would always be my favorite dog, no matter what.
I’m just an eight year old daughter.

Lexy is a wonderful new puppy. She‘s been such a funny and fun girl.
I thought I was never going to see such a funny puppy! She’s made my life better since Jake passed away. I miss Jake a lot. He was a good, great, sweet and wonderful dog. Lexy is like that too. But…she’s been sent by Jake and Jesus. As my mom says! She wanted to call Lexy JJ! I’m just an eight year old girl. I’m Angie’s daughter , Madeline.

Dear Madeline,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your beautiful letter and share your love of Jake with us. It is indeed a very hard thing to lose a beloved pet, for whatever some may say, we know the truth don't we? Jake may have had four legs and tail, he may not have spoken "human," but he was, and always will be, a member of your family! I can promise you that Jake, wherever his spirit is now, is watching over for you and is very happy that you now have Lexy in your family. You Mom is quite right, Jake must surely have had a hand (paw) in sending her to you, for he knows you need a dog to love and care for. Lexy will never replace Jake, and any dogs you may have in the future will never replace Lexy. There is always room in our hearts to love as many pets as we like. Your love for one, never takes away your love for those you which you have lost. I am quite sure that Jake is looking down on you this very minute, with a smile on his face and love in his heart for you, your human family and for little Lexy!

Best wishes for you and your whole family - two-legged and four legged!

Madeline you write so beautifully. If you had not told me, I would probably think you were older than an eight year old girl! Your Mommy and Daddy must be very proud of you.

I have seen pictures of Lexy and I too think she was chosen to be your new fur family member. I have seen Jake's pictures as well, and he certainly was lovely. I know you miss him but I'm so glad Lexy has been sent to you. Please continue to keep your journal. It is a treasure.

Oliver and I are sending you big hugs. I think Oliver and Lexy would have fun playing together. He likes girls

Hi Madeline! I liked your story about Jake and Lexy. I agree with you about Jake always being your fav dog, but if you are like me you'll end up having a lot of favorites! Like my first 2 dogs ever were my first favorites, Lido and Ellie, then my dog Pickles was my next favorite, then there was Ozzie, and Colonel Bogie, oh and Sugar Bear! And then I had McGruff [the crime dog], Mitzi, Miss Piggie, and Schmoo. I have had alot of dogs! Now my favorites are Whitey and Sam. But I never forget any of my other dogs, because I totally love them all! Keep us posted on what Lexy's been up to lately please- we love reading your blog! Bye, Jen 8)

Lexy has been doing fine. Mommy was gone today, so I had to take Lexy out. But she played with another neighborhood puppy today. But she got a little too hyper, and she pulled the leash out of my hand. She ran around in circles chasing the other dog and I couldn't catch her. Then I started fake crying and she came over to see what was wrong. I stepped on the leash and grabbed it and I had her under control again. Lexy will still always be my second favorite dog. She's always going to bring me joy and happiness.

From,
Madeline

Well Madeline, that was very fast thinking on your part! Isn't Lexy a good girl to come when she thinks you are hurt or crying? I'm so glad that worked, but you must be sure not to do that too many times, like the boy who cried wolf. Your Mommy tells us that Lexy is growing into a very good dog indeed. I bet you are a big help with Lexy. She is such a pretty dog. Lexy loves you very much. I must say you write very well for an 8 year old, better than some adults who's writing I see on the internet. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to reading more of your "Lexy Journal".

Oliver and I are sending you and Lexy hugs. I understand Oliver and Lexy are going to be each other's Valentine this year

Madeline very smart to do the fake cry! Lexy loves you very much to come running back. When Allie gets distracted as puppies will do, I have laid on the ground! It worked too ;)
