Its great that he's more aware. Such a shame about the bed sore. Once they sort out his nutrition your dad will be less at risk of bed sores and it will heal quicker. Good luck. I don't do prayers but am sending positive vibes still.

Absolutely Caramel! Big big big!! GROUP HUG!! Thank you all........haven't been for a couple of days, both my mom and I needed a break.....she just called every day.....can't wait to see him tomorrow!!

Have a good time tomorrow! I'm sorry to hear that he aspirated. Tammy only got pneumonia once, but the set-back was really discouraging at the time. We made it through, and she was back home in a week and a half and back on track to recovering. It sounds like your dad is doing really well as far as being aware of what's going on around him. I know that's something you were concerned about, so I'm very happy to hear he's been enjoying the visits with you and your mom. Enjoy tomorrow and I'll check in on you again soon!

We had a good visit, he is doing much better. We got to talk to one of the nurses that was on duty in the wing he is currently in, she told us she is usually on his wing and knows his situation well. She is very pleased with his progress and she said that a week ago she never thought he would have come along as far as he has!! That was so encouraging. He has to wear these big boot things since he has to lay so much right now to keep him off of the bedsore. The boots keep his heels from getting sores on them. He was moving one leg on top of the other and he looked right at me and clearly said "Watch out", and then he moved his leg. He wanted to make sure he didn't hit me with it. He also reached for and held my mom's hand one time, and looked at me and said jokingly "I know you!" ! It sounds like such small accomplishments, but for a long time he hasn't even said coherent full sentences, and for the past month or so everything sounded like garbled words coming out of his mouth. Like I said it was a good visit!!

Oh and my mom and I got to go out to breakfast together, something we haven't gotten to do for a while! That was nice too!

Linda I know how the seemingly little things are actually huge. The fact that your father is communicating with you is tremendous. I'm sure your mother enjoyed having breakfast with you. I remember going through all of this with my Dad and just know that my heart is with you.

Oh Linda! Reading about your visit brought tears of joy to my eyes. When you've gone through months of not knowing what tomorrow brings, the simplest things can fill your heart with hope. Your dad sounds like a fighter and he knows how much he is loved by you and your mom (and many others I am sure). I am SO thrilled for you...and I'm sure the time you had with your mom was much needed for you both!
