Poor Sheltie!

What you said is very true Kian. Topaz's energy is much higher when we're at home. She runs around like a crazy girl. But, as soon as the leash goes on and we go somewhere else, she's a calm as can be... I still don't see her as that hyper of a dog though. I'm hoping she's not like Marco though- gaining more energy with age! People that know the breed (but haven't had one) are always surprised at how calm she is. Like with your blue heeler. He was a really handsome boy by the way. I saw his pictures.

Oh! Poor Meeko!! I'll be thinking about her... It's always scary when they go under. She'll be fine though. I can't blame you for worrying. I'm still dreading the day I have to take Topaz to be spayed. I always hated that. I remember moping around all day when my kitty went. It's hard not knowing what's going on. And you don't have your buddy there to comfort you!

Meeko will be just fine though! :D

Poor Meeko!!! Sampson got a fish hook in his mouth about a month ago when we were at the beach. Although it was painful for him, in the end I really think I was more traumatized by it than he was. We didn't end up taking him to the vet because it was a Sunday. We removed it ourselves with much difficulty and kept an eye on it watching for any signs of infection. My husband is a nurse, so he kind of knew what to look for. I know dogs are different than humans, but some basic signs of infection are similar. He healed up just fine though. The mouth is one of the best places to get a fish hook stuck if a dog must get one stuck at all. The mouth heals much more quickly than some other areas of the body. Let us know how Meeko is doing as soon as you find out.

i had no idea the mouth healed quicker thats makes me feel much more releived!
i agree, i dont think there would be much different signs when it comes to infections.
We where gonna try and take it out ourselfs but unfortunaly it one with three hooks and couldnt exactly tell how many went through and then couldn find pliers.. so everything was happening at once lol
I no how you feel! im more traumatized then her
im so worried to leave her alone now lol
i just keep thinking what would of happend if i hadnt of been out there with her when it all happend
but im sure if she can forget it i will eventually to! .... hopefully .... :? lol
i felt bad asking the vet for the fishing lure back though ( it was an expensive one .. lol)

I just got back from walking Topaz at the park. She was soooo cute!

I decided we needed to work on her wait in more different situations. So, I had my friend hold her leash while I told her "wait" and walked away. She usually did try to follow, but she wasn't able to thanks to the leash. (ha ha) I'd nod to signal my friend to release the leash. Then, I'd wait a few seconds, and call her. She bolted straight to me every time. It was pure torture for her to wait! Then, once she got to me, did she try to run off? No! She was soooo happy to be by my side. Too cute! She'd complain every time she got to me to. I'm sure she was wining because I left her. "how could you leave me mom? How could you?!!" Poor thing. She definitely has "come" down. :D

Are your "Velcro" dogs as easy to get to come? :)

haha Meekos like that when we go the weir ( a giant lake.. sort of lol)
except she likes to wonder off but as soon as i go in the opposite direction she bolts straight after me haha.
i can call her ffrom anywhere in the house and she would come running
but when it came to puppy pre school she only sometimes came coz she new when i called her it wasnt 'play time' anymore
so i had to keep randomly calling her and giving her food so it wasnt the same everytime

Meekos new favourite pillow is between my neck and shoulder at the moment
i think its cute :D

anyone else's aussie learn to pick up 2 things at once?
Meeko is so greedy sometimes, ill throw her a toy and if she sees another toy she wants on the way vack she has to pick that one up as well! haha the brat :P

i was gonna put this post and the last post together but it would of been to long ...
haha

Not sure if there is a specific conversation going on here  , but I'd like to say...I LOVE AUSSIES!

I've been wanting one for years now, and doing alot fo reasearch on them, and hope to rescue one one day. There is a rescue only about 2/3 hours away from me.

:D

I've talked to Marie (Diamond Aire Kennel) and had planned to go to her kennel to photograph her dogs and other animals, but sadly timing didn't work out well, as my grandma had been in the hospital for the summer and we were unable to leave town.

Awww, once again, really cute photos of Meeko! I am so excited, I'm getting a DSLR camera at the end of this month. Not sure which though..... Either the Nikon D300 or the Canon 50D. Either way I should be able to take some super cute photos of Topaz. :D Fun, fun, fun!! :)

And Malorey, Blinkme is correct, if you love aussies this is the place to be! They're great dogs. I saw one at the vet today and had to stop and ask his owner about him. He was a double Merle. Very unique.

I have to look twice, I get Meeko and Topaz mixed up! They both so striking. I love the new pictures.
I have Allie doing the stay and wait and will do it as long as my hand is up in the air palm forward, when I bring my arm straight down that is the release command.
Try this with Topaz, have her do the sit/ stay (no leash) and give her a treat while she is in that command. Do not release her yet. Do that a few times and then release her by having her come to you. No treat for that. Then gradually move further away and make it longer. If she breaks the stay go back and do it again, just keep it shorter. When I was about 10 feet away I would walk back and give her a treat and the stay command again to reinforce the command. Clickers work great as a marker for this. Now she is in the sit stay while I walk across the soccer field and she will hold the stay for up to 2 minutes. After that she her impulse is gone, so I set her up to succeed. Do the same with Topaz and let us know how it works.

Thanks Kian! I never thought of that. I guess always asking her to come is a big mistake..... She'll always think she's going to come! :D I can't believe I didn't realize that. Oh well. That's why I have the DP to help me! :)

Being a Double Merle he was probly blind or deaf or even both poor thing
even though im sure he's living a good life,
Breeders should always test their dogs before breeding them to reduce the number of dogs being affected by the double merle gene.

i always think its exciting getting a new camera!
im excited for you! :D
i have to warn you though .... cute puppies and DSLRs dont go well together ....
youll never put the camera down!

i might even try this with Meeko .. it sounds like a good idea!
thanks!
i still cant believe how much she's grown .. i also noticed the other day that her nose has almost completely filled in with black!
