I've just discovered that the University of Guelph (where I obtained my BSc. in Zoology) offers an MSc in Animal Welfare. I am unbelievably drawn to this program. I have signed up for their emailed newsletter, I've started reading published articles on animal welfare, and I'm enrolling in an online introductory animal welfare course in the winter, to see if I really do want to pursue studying in the field.
I'm wary though. As much as this field interests me, job availability after completion concerns me. Can I really afford to spend thousands of dollars and 2 years of my life on something that likely won't result in employment in the field (I have yet to look into that thoroughly, though).
My other concern, is that I've just moved to Barrie from Guelph 6 months ago (for a contract position and to be in the same town as my OH). I imagine my OH would be quite displeased to be in a long distance relationship again (although I've done much further long distance than 2 hours in the past).
I know no one can tell me what I should do, I just needed to think outloud. The regulars on DP are thoughtful, encouraging, educated, and down to earth....so what better place to seek advice?
Thanks for reading.
