After alot of visits to alot of kennels we found a new puppy. This past weekend we visited our final kennel. It was kind of funny because it was the closest one to where we live out of all that we visited. We were looking for a Chocolate lab puppy for spring. Well as usual for us, a dog adopted us. At the final kennel we were looking at all the Chocolate labs that were going to be bred, while checking out all the dogs there. In one pen was an 8 week old female cream lab that was going home that afternoon. Next to her was big straping male dark golden lab that was 3 months and 2 weeks old. The breeder had chosen him out of a litter of 9 to breed. But as she started her imaginary breedings she realized that the blood lines would be a little too close for comfort. So she could have stud him out - but instead chose to put him up for adoption. You could tell she loved him - she had nicknamed him "handsome". He was only put up for adoption during the week and we visited saturday. I mentioned we may be interested and would call that night. The breeder was out that night but her daughter was able to book us in for another visit Sunday. As we had just lost our yellow we were wanting to change color, so I wanted to make sure our girls where ok with him. So come Sunday we have an early morning call from the breeder that there was another family interested but we could have first pick. Up we went at the scheduled 1:00 and my got the girls aproval. The breeder let us take him home that very day. Afterward she told us in checking her emails there was yet another family that had emailed and wanted him. I feel bad for those families but happy for us. We have named him Cooper Handsome. It was very hard visiting kennels with no guarantee's. But we did go through the process. This breeder was excellent, very informative, clean kennel and excellent temperament/health with all the dogs. So now the joy of raising him begins.
