What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Postby princelover on Thu Dec 17, 2009 6:53 am

At this time of year, we are bombarded with movies and specials on tv celebrating the holiday season. I thought it might be interesting to see what movies or special everyone enjoys at this time of year.
I will start with "A Christmas Carol" Not the many modern remakes but the older Dickens classic.

I also enjoy the story of the little boy and his BB gun. (you'll shoot your eye out!) This one always reminds me of Christmas past since I grew up during this era when Christmas really had a meaning beyond the commercialism of today, and times were poor and people even poorer.
I do enjoy the classic cartoons like Rudolph, the Grinch, Frosty, and Charlie Brown. Who cannot make mention of Alvin and the Chipmonks?
The thing I don't like is the movie marathons where they show the same movie over and over all day and night.

If you have seen a really good movie, please post.

Sher,

I have to agree...the original "Chistmas Carol", I believe it's from 1938, is my favorite. I also like the original "Miracle on 34th Street" with Natalie Wood.
Who doesn't love "A Christmas Story"?...LOL  "It was soap poisoning" makes me laugh every time, as I had my mouth washed out with soap more times than I can count!  And the Bumpus' dogs...love 'em!

I've thought of one - International Velvet. I know it isn't a christmas film but they always used to show it at christmas when I was a child.

International Velvet is good any time of year. I love horses and grew up on them.

I loved "elf" such an unusual movie plot. My daughter thought it was corny but I thought it was hilarious.

Chistmas Story makes me laugh all the way through it. I don't know how many times I have watched it since it came out but I look forward to seeing it again this year. The soap scene has to be one of the best. My mom believed in soap for a "potty mouthed kid". I must have ate a ton of that stuff and Castor oil!!!!! Its a miracle we survived!

That is by far my favorite Christmas movie. I love the soap poisoning! LOL! And the "F- - -, the mother of all curse words!" part. Ahhh what a classic. Can't forget "Son of a b**** Bumpuses!" or "an icicle fell and hit me in the eye."

My Mom and her siblings have seen this movie so many times that they can recite the WHOLE thing. It's funny at first, but after the first 15 minutes... not so much
It's kind of rubbed off on me though

I do have other Christmas Classics that I like: Santa Clause is Comin to Town, A Year Without a Santa Clause (Meiser Brother one), Rudolph, The Grinch, and Elf!
