Why are your black cats so skinny and mine are fat!? We went for a family trip to the vet this weekend and Bear lost weight and now weighs 7.5kg (about 15 pounds) and Sophia weighs 8.25 (about 16 pounds). Sophia's head is the size of a peanut though so it makes her body look extra fat.

Poor Willow - hopefully she makes a full recovery. I can only imagine how sick you guys felt about it all.

Tracy - if we only knew what cats thought about us. It's true...dogs are so thankful and loving and cats are demanding and loving on their terms only! Gotta love 'em all though!

Mine is skinny because he uses a lot of energy torturing the family.

I am always amused by the story, A Day in the Life of a Dog vs. A Day in the Life of a Cat. The dog's day starts out with being happy, whereas the cat's day start off with "Day 3,429 of captivity..." LOL!

Chandra, your cats sound lovely. 8)

We didn't have a lot of housecats growing up. We had wonderful barn cats, who were part of the family, but didn't come in the house. They were such characters.

Tracy, your Pete is a survivor, and he is as cute as a button!

MS&me - Wow! 16 pounds :o Before Mandie passed away she was down to 6 pounds... it was very pitiful
But the biggest cat I have known has to be my great aunt's cat named "Big Mama." 20 pounds of pure evil  (and probably tuna too  )

LittleK that's hilarious. Big Mamma sounds like she deserved her name (or nickname!).

Deb I love that story because when you have had both cats and dogs, you realise how true it really is! Every barn cat I have known (keeping in mind is not many) has always been so full of love. I only met one who was worse than a guard dog!

Tracy how old is Pete?

Yes she was very mean though! And for no reason either, she must have been one grumpy cat. They said she was never abused or anything... so IDK why she was so grumpy. She liked to scratch and would snort like a pig when she got mad. :?

Mali Sasha & Me, may I call you Chandra? Or Cheddar?

I found Pete by the side of the road on 24th August and I think he was about 4 weeks old so he must be just over 5 months.

Tracy you are a doll for rescuing Pete. I seriously love that name for a cat.

LittleK - yes, you can call me Chandra or Cheddar. We had a cat called Nippers. She would hide under the couch, grab your ankles and bite and jack rabbit your feet. Ouch!!

Our neighbors have a cat named Leftover.
He was the last kitten in the litter and nobody wanted him.

An old friend of mine who already had three cats, was adopted by a stray that became known as Spare Cat.

I have visited people's homes who have "crazy cats". One minute, I will be sitting there, talking to my friend, when suddenly, without warning, I am being attacked by sharp claws and nipping. I find it rather startling

Chandra, you are exactly right about barn cats being so loving. We had this lovely boy, Tigger, a beautiful grey tabby, who used to sleep on my horse's back in the winter. He would come when he was called and jump up in our arms for hugs and cuddles, without ever scratching us with his talons. I think we were in the barn with the horses in those days more than we were in the house. Wonderful memories, but I do digress.

I am thoroughly enjoying reading about the various names for the cats. They are amusing.

My grandma also had the most evil cat in the world named Sundae. (My grandma was really bad at choosing cats )
She was one mean Siamese cat. Also very fat as well, about 17 pounds or so. Her stomach would jiggle when she ran, it was rather repulsive :P . One minute I would be brushing her, and the next she would turn around and hiss at me! It was very, very scary, especially to a young 5 year old. :(
Good thing my grandpa protected me by picking up that devil and taking her away.
They eventually had to giver her away because they weren't home often and they didn't want to leave her alone so often. Plus she was getting very sick, another reason not to leave her alone.

My mom, as a kid, had 2 cats named "Kitty" and "Mousey"
