LOL That is one of my favorite pictures of her actually. I have a thing for cute bunny butts, as odd as that sounds. :?

Haha, John is skeptical every time I mention a pet. In the end he always ends up saying I made the right decision though. 8)

So good to hear Matilda is a female! She can keep her cute name. With you on watch she will be fine, glad the infection is mild and easy to treat.

Glad it's a minor infection! She'll wise up to that nose drop thing! Good Luck.

Is Kale a type of hay?

I decided on getting bunny #3, Dougie, because I missed seeing the bunny butt running around my house!

Kian, I'm glad she's a girl too. I think her name would've stayed regardless though. Matilda just seems to fit. :?

Kris, I'm glad it was minor too. I'm still keeping a close eye on it though, and keeping my fingers crossed that it clears up with the gentamicin. Because I do NOT want it to turn into snuffles.

Kale is a dark leafy green. :) She really enjoys it, but it's rather high in calcium and another nutrient, which is escaping me right now, so while it is good for buns, it shouldn't be in more than three meals a week. Right now she's on unlimited pellets, and vegetables are more or less for treat purposes. However, as she gets older I'd like to decrease her pellets and up her vegetables so by that the time she's around six months she's only getting around 1/2 cup pellets per 6 lbs. body weight, and by the time she's fully mature I'd like to have her down to about 1/4 cup pellets per 6 lbs. body weight. With the rest of her diet being made up of fresh vegetables and dark greens, at that point she'll get about 2 cups of veggies and greens per 6 lbs.

I'm still reading up on how to keep it all balanced, but I have around a year before she's to that point. ;)

I can't decide which part of the buns are cuter, the ears or their tails.

Benjamin would say their ears! He loved to stroke his face with his bunny ears (from his toy) while he sucked his thumb. As long as he had "Bunny", everything was fine. He LOVED his bunnies!

I love their little cotton tail bums! I love it all. Rabbits are delightful. 8)

I hope Matilda gets better soon. I'm sure you'll manage a raw diet by the time she is a year.

LOL I think I might be with you Deb. I love love love their tails.

Matilda is turning out to be quite the character, often when she's mad she'll 'stomp' her back feet at you. She'll also 'groom' me, however doesn't quite care to be petted.

I'm excited to be doing mostly raw with her, perhaps it will someday lead to the girls getting a raw diet. I was actually upset because they had dandelion greens at the store that I wanted to get some of them, but they only came in 1.5 lb bundles. More would have gone bad than she would have eaten, so I settled for the kale.

Kale is good Mary, and just think, by summertime, you will probably be able to pick your own dandelion leaves.

I used to give Dougie brocolli, parsley and carrots everyday. He always had really soft mushy poo that would be a horrible mess on his bum. I tried everything to keep him clean, several times the vet had to shave the poor guy. I ended up cutting out the carrots because he was chunky and needed to loose some weight, then I kept reading & hearing that the green veggies were probably too much for him, so I cut them out. Now all he gets is an 1/8 cup of pellets in the morning and unlimited Timothy Hay from Oxbow, he's about 5 lbs. It has completely cleared up his poo issues and he is a stealth bunny again!
Dougie does love fruit and has actually taken peaches off my plate before! He doesn't seem to care for bananas as much as my previous bunnys did, but melons & peaches...watch out for the begging bunny!

I was wondering if the vet was able to age Matilda, sounds like she is still a baby.

Kris, that's no good that Dougie had problems. I'm introducing things slowly one at a time, so that if she had a problem with any one vegetable or green I can cut it out. So far all she's had is carrots and kale, albeit in treat amounts. She gets around two baby carrots a day (one after every time I have to give her medicine, so she gets something for her troubles. ) And just a small piece of kale (like a third of the leaf), and we haven't had any problems yet! knock on wood

Matilda doesn't seem to like bananas all that much either actually, which was surprising to me. She'll nibble at a small piece, then quickly lose interest. Although, I've read about how many buns love alfafa and can give trouble eating a grass hay, but Matilda prefers her timothy hay over her alfalfa. She'll come 'beg' when I'm cleaning her cage and she sees me get the bag of timothy hay out to give her fresh hay.

The vet put her at around 3-4 months, so she's still quite young. :) The sad thing is, I've already come to the conclusion that she's smarter than me.

She sounds like a very sensible bunny to me. Who in their right mind likes bananas?!

I agree with Phyrie on the bananas... whether you were being sarcastic or not

Sorry I'm a little late on this thread. Matilda is so adorable and precious! I'm glad her runny nose is only a minor thing. Have fun with your new pet!

I love bananas.

Thank you K! She seems to be doing a little better today. She's hardly sneezing and her nose is losing it's yellow tint.

I'm a little bananas...okay I couldn't resist! We always had alfalfa with the horses and the buns loved that.

She eats the alfalfa, she'll just choose the timothy hay more often. :)

She's wising up to the nose drops, and it's gotten a bit more difficult to give her her meds. She'll hide her face in John's arm when she sees me coming with the bottle.
