Boston Terrier !!

Postby chozengirl1982 on Tue Mar 30, 2010 9:30 pm

I didn't see a topic on the Boston Terrier, we just got our 8 week old Boston Terrier and she is the love of our lives....her name is Roxy!!

For those of you who also have Boston Terriers, what are some tips for me as a new mommy.

I don't know any active members with a Boston, but maybe someone will drop by. Enjoy your new one.

I looked at your profile. You found your dog in a recycle bin? How terrible for your dog. How old was she when you rescued her?

Phyrie, I think a "recycler" is also another term for a newspaper or magazine with classified ads. I might be wrong though. :?

No, I found her in the recycler its kind of like craigslit... (link edited by mod) sorry that it was misleading. The thought of finding a puppy in a recycle bin turns my stomach.

Oh dear. Finding a puppy on craigslist, or something like it, isn't much better. A "breeder" who advertises in one of these papers is virtually guaranteed to be a puppymill operator. I know the deed is done now, but people, responsible breeders DON'T have to advertise in cheap papers!! They don't have to advertise at all, usually, and if they did, it would be in a reputable dog/breed publication.

If you don't want to spend the time doing your research and being put on a reputable breeder's waiting list, please, just go to your local shelter. Buying a dog from the penny saver means another puppymill operator can breed more badly bred, ill-cared for dogs.

Actually it was just a family nearby that had two Boston Terriers and they had babies. We have been talking to them for a long time, so I did my research before I went. I meet the mommy and daddy and we played at their house for like an hour. So I know we made the right decision.

Were your Boston's parents and their parents parents parents parents tested and cleared for BAOS, hypothyroidism, eye disease, patellar luxation, and deafness? If not, unfortunately, your little dude is not a well bred individual. Yes, it's lovely to be able to meet the parents and see where they lived, but when it comes to whether a breeder is reputable or not, it means diddly squat.

My intention is not to be offensive, merely to pass on knowledge to you and others who may happen to read this.

I am glad you all are worried about my dog, but she is in great health and the vet has cleared her of everything that would normally worry me about BT's.

How is Roxy doing? I have a 6month old Boston and have taken care of another Boston in the past. What kind of questions/issues do you have?

Great video! I grew up with Boston's and my parents had them long after I left home. My mom just lost her last one a couple of months ago after 13 great years. They are great dogs, pretty mild mannered and very loving. I got a kick out of hearing Roxy bark as my mom's last Boston only barked 3 or 4 times in his life!

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread before now. I hope you and Roxy are doing well!

We actually just joined a Boston Terrier Meetup group through meetup.com and they are all over the place, so we are excited about getting to meet other Boston owners.

I hope your mom considers another one, they are great companion dogs!

great video! my guy doesn't bark much, just when he wants you or another dog to chase him around. Funny to see such a reaction. I showed my guy his really little puppy pictures on the computer the other day and he was really into looking at them.

Hi! I am not a very active member. But I have previously owned three Boston Terriers for 15 years. Currently I own two Boston Terriers that are a year old. (See pictures) I do conformation showing and obediance training. One major health issue that is increasing with flat nosed breeds is breathing problems. They have a pinched nose and elongated soft pallete causing them to snort and have trouble breathing. One of my pups had the surgery when he was around 6 months and is doing marvelous. He can run without having to stop and catch his breath. A previous dog I owned had the nose/soft pallete sugery done when she was 10 years old to stop her from snoring. The recovery was difficult, BUT it gave her a new life.

My dogs get hives when they have been bitten by wasps or bees. It scared the crap out of me when it first happened. I always have Benedryl with me when I travel and do not leave them unattended outside for very long.

I don't have alot of internet access, but I will have more come end of August. I will try to assist with any questions if there are any. I hope everyone enjoys there new puppies. I know I love and enjoy mine.
