I took this picture on the drive down from Miami...it's a baby Key deer. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it was so tiny and could barely walk. It was following it's mother out on to the road, then wobbled back and laid down on the shoulder. They are an endangered species and there is a strictly enforced speed limit through Big Pine Key, which is where most of the Key deer live. The shoulder height of Key deer is between 24-32 inches. The adults reach 45 to 75 lbs. and the fawns weigh only 2 to 4 lbs. when they are born.
Nice shot RJM,..cute little creature!,....and nice to see the speed is reduced to cater for those deer,...welcome back,...hope you and OH had a great break,..apart from the flight delay,
Yes, I'm glad they are protected, as there are only 500-800 estimated to be left. We did see some speeders driving through the area and really hoped they would be stopped and ticketed.
I was thinking of you and have some cat pictures to post. There are dogs, cats and chickens all over Key West.
Yes, Peggy, the lady who runs the place has it decorated so nicely. And puts flowers and petals on the bed after it's made. I wish I had someone to do that for me at home! I'll have to talk to the OH.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,...beautiful garden,...some color!!!!,..i will sleep in that garden,....fantastic,...with Chicks a plenty,..lovely pictures,...you must really have had peace of mind.
Michelle, these are for you. This is Picasso, a 14 month old Border terrier. He was with his brother, but this was the friendlier of the two. The other one was a little standoffish.
