I wanted to update everyone on my return from my trip from New Jersey. While there i did get to spend lots of time with my son -Alex, who is 20, and we both i think helped each other through a very difficult time, i of course comforted him, but i felt comforted by him as well just by his being there..i was also able to hold my Buffy once again and speak to her and let her know just how much she meant to me and always will..somehow i think she heard me...my son even took a few pictures of me holding her in her special box. i can't tell u right now why i wanted him to do that..but i thought later i might want that added rememberence. my son may be visiting me here in Virginia sometime during this semester since he has more days off in a row , i'm hoping anyway. i wanted to thank you all once again for your condolences , i really appreciate it. My plan now is to honor Buffy's memory and adopt a puppy probably at the end of the summer or beginning of the fall..of course unless i find one sooner..u just never know do u? God Bless , always, Buffy's mom, Mindy

I'm glad it's given you some comfort, to hold Buffy that one last time and if you needed a photo of the occassion then that was the right thing too.

Good luck in your search for a puppy. Are you looking for anything in particular or are you waiting for a puppy to pick you?

Mindy, I was pleased to read your post. I'm glad you and your son managed to find a way to honour Buffy together, and hopefully find some "closure" (although I hate that expression). Being far away meant that you weren't able to be with her at the end, so I understand your need to feel close to her one more time.

Acquiring a new loved one is a great idea. It's time to start a new chapter. You'll have to join us in the other threads and keep us apprised of your search and its results.

I'm glad you are home, safe and sound.

Thanks for welcoming me home..it's good to be back. as for what particular type of puppy i am looking for..depends. yes i kind of know. thinking golden retriever..but have a few other ideas too. problem..is when i go look..which i have held off for this one reason up to now...i'm a sucker for a cute puppy. i would take them all home if i could. and aren't all puppies cute? hence, i'm in big trouble..so i haven't looked in person yet. one thing i am afraid of..is finding a chow puppy..or chow mix puppy..i will be totally lost..not know what to do...will adopting that puppy bring too many reminders of my buffy..would that be a mistake or a blessing for me...ANY IDEAS ON THAT SUBJECT? should i steer away from that? i know when the daily puppy ran a chow puppy and it had her coloring also ..that was hard for me...i had so many mixed feelings...maybe i should just leave it in God's hands as to what puppy finds me as what's meant to be. i only know i am looking forward to the joys of a puppy underfoot and just watching my cats -smokey and bandit and this new puppy {once they're acquainted} have a blast together..running around the place together. You should see these two cats now ..every evening they look at each other..actually look like they lock eyes..and they take off..running..everywhere..down the long hallway..in the bedroom..in the living room..etc..chasing each other..they sound like a herd of elephants...and it's just the two of them now..i can just see when we add a puppy to the equation..should be something to watch! now that's entertainment! :D Smokey sleeps ..sharing my pillow..in back of my head most nights..and bandit sleeps usually on the floor on a special rug next to my side of the bed...we will have to come up with a special place for our newest Family member in our bedroom also of course too. God Bless, all my best to everyone, Mindy

I just wanted to keep everyone updated..i put in an application with a border collie rescue group for a pupy .haven't quite decided on which one yet.. there were actually two that i was interested in- i at first saw BANDIT.. A gorgeous pup-border collie/newfoundland-male/4-5 months old, being fostered near richmond, va. the other beautiful pup ANNIE -terrier/border collie/i think now is 9 months old approx/says it was 3 months 01/23/10,female,fostered in Quinton, Va- i had already filled out the application for the first puppy when i looked at their full list of dogs, so i emailed and let them know of my interest in the other pup as well...and would they help decide which would be best suited for our home /both according to the application/plus they do make a home visit/etc. the group is ARC Border Collie Rescue-South-richmond,Va. i'm quite excited to hear back from them. i'll keep you posted. also, one of my friends from the moose lodge is coming over hopefully this thursday..and going to try to move those pics of mine to an area of my computer out of the emails and then if that is done..or somehow..we are going to try and post pics of BUFFY here. cross your fingers. question i have is..for my new puppy once i do get him or her..what forum do i use for that topic..if i have questions..or just want to talk..keep conversation going? and also once i do get my new pup i will send pics to my son so he can scan them and send them back to me in an email..hopefully then i will know myself what to do about moving them further..i am going to write down exactly what my friend does if she is successful that is..hoping...but where do i post those new pics of my new pup? on what forum? i know several questions here..hope someone checks this and can get back to me..thanks, God Bless, :) Mindy

Hi Mindy:

I can hear the excitement in your post and that's lovely. As far as posting pictures and in which threads, generally one will post in the Introduction section first. (That is the first section at the top of the Board Index). In each section, at the top, there is an information thread about how to post pictures using Photobucket. That is the easiest way.

Once the pictures are uploaded on your computer, you simply go to Photobucket, create an account and upload there. Follow the instructions and away you go. The other members will also help as you go.

As you can probably see from the various titles of the different sections, we cover every topic, and then some. In the "General" section, there are all sorts of topics from Misc. Idle Chit Chat to What did your dog do today to make you laugh and even ones of individual dogs. I just made a thread in there called "Oliver & Henry's Antics" with pictures.

We even have an "Off Topic" section that has all sorts of interesting and silly threads, like recipe sharing or pictures of our gardens. Just have a look around, and please feel free to jump in to any thread that interests you. There is a Breed Specific area, as well as a Behaviour Section, just to name a few.

If you ever need specific advice, please feel free to send me a Personal Message. Have fun exploring the Forum, and the whole site and don't worry about being in the right or wrong place to post. We Mods can always move a topic and are happy to offer guidance.

You may wish to wet your feet in the Introduction section. You don't need a dog to post in there, as we all enjoy talking about the impending arrival of a new one. Actually, several of our members are without dogs. The only requirement here is to love dogs and you certainly fit that bill.

I am excited that you have contacted a rescue group and are moving forward. Keep us posted, and start exploring the DP!

Hugs,
Deb

Dear Mindy, I'm bawling while I'm typing this reply. It hurts so much and I feel it for you in my heart too. Maybe once we're all on the Other Side, we'll care for all the puppies coming over the Rainbow Bridge. I think I'd like to do that.... I know Master is waiting like our Maggie is with many other wonderful pets from our lifetime. Wish I could help the hurt go away, but I know it doesn't.... Mag's Mom (lots of hugs)

It has been so hard and i miss her very much. she was truly a wonderful dog. i grieve for her every day, the tears do not stop. i hope she knows in heaven where i know she is..just how much i miss her, and will always love her and what her devoted companionship meant to me. I saw the beautiful poem Rainbow Bridge already posted..my ex had sent it to me also. i'd like to add another one. buffy's mom, mindy

Dear sweet Mag's mom, and Deb, and all, got a response back late yesterday from the border collie rescue to my email address from questions i had emailed..they are going to be calling me to set up a home visit very shortly she said..-i am so excited..soon i hope..i will have a new addition to my Family..still don't have which exact pup yet..either it will be Bandit or Annie..this is what she said to me in her email...both are great pups. Annie is older-{i estimated her to be about 9 months old now}, she said-she is not quite as puppyish and of course will be smaller than Bandit. Annie also has those adorable whiskers. {a terrier} Bandit is a cutie pie-good natured and very well behaved for a puppy. he is just about house broken and not bad about chewing. she said he is going to be a fairly large boy. his paws are so big he trips over them sometimes. she told me if i had any further questions to let her know. which u can tell with me i did..i am so curious..so i emailed her back immediately for more info on these babies. so hard for me to decide which one ..wish i could take both..but..better put that thought out of my mind..i entertained that for a second just now..lol...first time i did that..think my fiance might have my head...plus thinking these dogs might be very active..enough to keep up with one..for now...and my cats will be giving me the evil eye for a long time...i can just see them now..it is good these pups are not little tiny delicate ones...my cats would each look one to the other and take a number as to who is in charge of this pup first. it is going to be a zoo at evening time here i can see it now..the herd is in session..running down the hall and through out the house...personally i cannot wait..i love it.. well unless things start flying..then i try to quiet down the action a bit...--yesterday i went out and bought a large dog crate and puppy gate..puppy chow, puppy biscuits, lots of puppy toys, and a special frisbee, a dog leash, -not a collar..don't know the right size to get, some boxes of doggie clean up bags for when we walk him/her. i figured i wanted to be ready..don't know exactly when this will be happening..and want my baby to feel right at home right away. i ordered online some of those cut to fit soft liners i don't know what u call them now..for the dog crate. i don't plan to keep him or her in it often..but as needed..and especially for training purposes..if not already trained...and also to help in getting used to new surroundings so it can view the area from a safe vantage point...just to get used to things at first. i feel sometimes too much of a big space is often frightening to a new animal...does anyone agree with me.? plus it is a way to safely separate new pets from other pets till they get used to each others scents..etc..make friends thru seeing each other safely. do u guys agree? any ideas for me..it has been a long time since i had a puppy...10 years since my last one..Buffy. and this will be the first time i had a puppy and had cats at the same time already in the home when i introduced a puppy...any help certainly appreciated with tips..please!! as always, God Bless, hugs to all, Mindy

Mindy, I am very excited for you! As Kris said, we can hear the excitement in your post.

I am only going to ask one thing of you. I ask that you go and start a thread in the Introduction Section so everyone can offer advice and share your excitement. Most people only come to this section briefly as it is the Rainbow Bridge Section. Let's give Annie or Bandit (or whomever) their very own special thread!

Actually, I'm going to ask two things (and please bear with me  ). Try to break your posts up into smaller paragraphs. It makes it much easier to read, sort of like I have done with this post. You aren't doing anything wrong at all!!!! I just want your DP experience to be as positive and helpful and joyous as it can be.

I imagine that you had a blast shopping for your new arrival. When Oliver came home, I had not had a puppy in 13 years, and I was SO excited. I probably bought far too many things, but I had found out 2 days prior to Christmas that we would be having a puppy come home in February, so I put all the puppy things under the tree for my boys...well that's why I said I did it. I probably did it more for me.

Mindy, I am so looking forward to sharing this journey with you! Congratulations sweetie...you are on your way!
