This thread has been so much fun. Back when I was a kid we had a Husky after my parents (and lucky older brother) went up to Point Hope, Alaska for a month. Of course, we got our dog in Ohio where I grew up (BTW, Richard, my son graduated from Antioch College.)

We called him Anoo Sayaak, which, according to my dad, was the name the Eskimos gave him (my dad) and it means 'the one who sleeps outside'--I'll save you the background information on that. He had a beautiful silvery coat with blue eyes (the dog--not my dad). And believe me, in the early 60's in small town Ohio they were not common dogs. The neighbors were certain that we were keeping a wolf.

He was a talker, an escape artist (many times we'd be getting settled at school and someone would tell us, "Your dog's outside!" or, more likely in the first couple times, a hysterical: "There's a wolf outside!!" and we'd have to take him home. We had a dog run with 6 ft. sides and he'd just jump over it when he would see us leave for school!) I love your comment, Richard, about them being out for a good time--that fit him to a tee. And, yes, he did eat one of our guinea pigs.

There was never a dull moment with Anoo. Thanks for the opportunity to remember him.

Hey Sandy,..I have been haveing the same problem trying to upload pictures. The avatar took about 4 trys before it was accepted, I am told that it comes and goes.Personally I have never seen it except on puppy comments. The story is allways the same "too big for a 2 mb limit". If there is such a limit I have not found it anywhere, and I do'nt know how to reduce a photo to "legal size". Perhaps there is someone out there who can enlighten me?

When we were first married my wife brought along 2 keeshonden,1 12 year old son [now 38] and a police trained GSD. The boy Kees was exceptionally smart and an obedience star in his own right. He became my buddy and would sit by my chair and talk with me.

Princelover, I have yet to see my new avatar, others have seen it come and go and seem to like it.
{Thanks Folks]. I finally was able to get it accepted after 4 tries , I have thus far not been as lucky trying to upload the photos I have stored [too big is what I get].

To change your avatar go to your profile.Find your old avatar, underneath find Edit or change avatar, click on one of these and you will find a place to enter the file name and number of your new avatar, you will then see the entire new picture and a frame you can drag around and expand or contract to select just what you want to display, press submit and wait for confirmation.

RJM, Kessler is a real cuteie, he is one of my favorites on the DP, Siberians seem to have a powerful influence on a mix, There is only one Kessler, enjoy him.

WOOFS to Y'ALL....Richard

purdyandi, Greetings,Do you remember who Anoo's breeder and hometown was and their kennel name..I know many breeders and show records going back at least 40 years My kennel name, is of course, Nileska [named after Nickolai and Alyeska, my first 2 Siberians ] the kennel name appears on all registrations of puppies born here. Nileska's Atu Atuk as an example. ..I moved from Dayton to Yellow Springs in 1968 and never left.

What years did your son attend Antioch? I was associated with the school from 1968 to 1988. I was Co ordinator for the Community Government photographic darkroom and resource person for Silversmithing [I taught individual students and wrote evaluations so that they would get independent study credit]. I DO hope your son enjoyed his time here....This is a whole different kind of place, some of the students stay here forever.. :D BTW where did you live in Ohio?

RE: "The one who sleeps outside" We have lots of snow around here and are geting more right now...Some of my Huskies insist on sleeping in snowdrifts even though they have warm cozy beds two of them are at the moment outside in the snow curled up in little balls with their nose tucked under their tails "snug as a bug in the rug".

WOOOoooooo...Richard 8)

Its Magic, I can now see my Avitar Woo Hoo, Thanks ADMIN.

Boy, I sure don't, I was in elementary school at the time and kinda not-in-the-loop.

What years did your son attend Antioch?

He graduated in 2003 right when the @$#%^ hit the fan about the closing, etc. My sister attended Antioch for a year or two in the 70's. I grew up in the Cleveland area, the kids grew up in Vermilion (just west of Lorain and north west of Oberlin). I loved going down to visit my son in Yellow Springs. Definitely a-typical for southwest Ohio.

purdyandi,..To update you on the Antioch debackle, the school did indeed close after futile efforts to save it,then was bought by a coalition of faculty, local business leaders, and alumnai. Money was raised,a new board was formed and will reopen as Antioch College [NOT Antioch University any more]. It will once again be independent of the network which was sucking the life [and funds] out of the local school.

There is also a new monstrosity out on the edge of town which in my estimation helped to suck the life out of the original school. It is called Antioch MacGregor and is a commutor college offering degree completeion etc. [little or nothing to do with the original school,Just tradeing on the name and prestiege] As an alum.your son has probably been kept updated on the efforts to save and then revive Antioch. Anyway..the school is re opened and prepareing for their first class this year.

I practically lived on campus during the 70s so i may have met your sister, but I left during the late 80s and was rarely there after that so I probably did not meet your son...At one time Sandusky was my summer vacation destination and I often ventured east as far as Vermillion but I have'nt been there in a looong time.I recall a really tiny red haired lady. with a tiny biack dog named Benson that I used to see at matches in that aerea they made quite a cute couple. She was from Vermillion.

Richard, I just saw a piece on the news today about a Sibe who needed to have one of his legs amputated. They were taking donations for the surgery and also looking for someone to adopt him. He looked just like my Dusty!
I went so far as writing down the number to call to adopt him...then came to my senses. :?
He sure was a beauty though. 8)

RJM,Sadly, there are more Huskies out there that need adopted than there homes available...My OH,who is a doggie person herself, has said that if I bring another dog home the dog and I both will have to find another place to live...I suppose I can see her point since I probably dont have another 13 years or so to invest.
.My pack is diminishing [I have lost 3 this year, all 13-14 years old]...Still,a youngster would be nice

Gina, was a cute little black and white bitch whom i rescued from the shelter on Christmas eve 12 1/2years ago. Her time was up and she was scheduled for euthenasia that night...She was a fine example of the breed and way too cute to leave.Gina became the constant companion of Bradley ,a big grey and white boy who was from my own breeding..We lost Bradley a couple of months ago and Gina was never the same, she joined him last week.

..There are only 3 old ladies left and all are`at least 13. Of course I will be 80 in a few months [how old is that in doggie years?] Its kind of a case of whoever leaves last, turn out the lights

The kennel which once housed at least 11 dogs is beginning to look like ''empty saddles in the old corral''as the song goes..I think i am geting the urge to rescue again  Anyone want to take in a homeless boy and his dog?

Woofs Y'all....Richard 8)

Richard, I am sorry to hear about the loss of Gina. Your comment about the last one left should turn out the lights did make me smile. 80 is still young as far as I'm concerned. My Mum is 78 and her newly wed husband just turned 86. Their social calendar is constantly full, and not with catching the "Early Bird Special" either!

Tracy has offered you a room!
