Linus "MB" Clark

Linus was picked up as a stray and taken to our local Humane Society as an 8 week old puppy; right around the same time my husband and I were thinking it was a perfect time in our lives to adopt and share all of our love with a pup who needed a good home. We walked into the shelter with an open mind looking at some of the older dogs first, but many of them were just too big and hyper for the apartment we were in at the time. We walked into the puppy room and Linus (or "Mittens" as they called him) was laying down with his nose to his crate, being so calm that he almost looked sad. He was labeled as a "Shepherd Mix" but we later concluded that he was definitely mixed with Australian Shepherd and American Pit Bull. It turned out that he had Kennel Cough along with a weakening digestive system. Still, we both fell in love with him the minute we got to hold our sweet baby and warm him up. We brought him home a couple weeks later (after all his shots, micro-chipping, and neutering; poor baby) on my birthday and it took about a good 6 months to get his tummy back to normal :( Since then, with a lot of exercise and TLC, he's the happiest, heartiest boy he could be! The apartments we lived in at the time had TONS of dog owners living there as well, so Linus made many puppy friends quickly! He LOVES to play with other dogs but can be kind of a "wussy" sometimes compared to the intimidating appearance of his body structure :) He is always aware of his surroundings, however, and will get up and stand in front of his mommy or daddy if he feels like he needs to protect us (like if someone on TV opens a door, or if a beam of light passes through bedroom window at night; haha). His favorite activity in the WHOLE WORLD is riding around in the car with me, ESPECIALLY if we're stopping by Starbucks for a yummy Puppyccino! He doesn't get super excited or anxious if you ask him if he wants to "go for a ride" or anything, but he WILL jump in ANY car if the door is open. lol. He also loves to walk down to the city park by our house and swim in the creek and explore. He's really good at staying by my side when he's supposed to when we're outside which makes it really easy when we want to go jogging or just sit out in the front yard with him; We usually don't have to even put a leash on him (ssshhh...). He's getting REALLY good at keeping his composure when other dogs come around while he's off his leash, too. It was kind of hard moving to our house for him at first because he was so used to running around with all the dogs at the apartments; he had to learn that neighborhood dogs aren't always used to being around other dogs and might not take his excitement very well. Linus absolutely LOVES people, as well, and he's especially intrigued by toddlers :) I'm still trying to work with him on the whole "jumping on guests" thing. My husband and I are constantly blown away by what a good dog Linus has turned out to be. We did some basic training when he was a puppy (sit, lay down, stay, "no", "bad", "good boy", "cookie", etc. lol.) but that's about all, and now it seems like he understands everything we say to him and he is so fun to be around. He is the perfect example of how raising a puppy with lots of love and attention from the start can add up to the most loyal, loving, friend and companion; and you could never forget bond that strong.
