Profile: Our Pal's Place is an incorporated, not-for-profit Pet Adoption Facility and Education Center located in Marietta, GA. Our mission is to rescue dogs from euthanasia at local animal control shelterss. When entering the shelter, we first meet the dogs who have a "death date". If we believe we can find the dog a good home, we pull the dog from the shelter into our organization. We provide our dogs food, housing, love, attention and any necessary rehabilitation. Our dogs receive full veterinarian care and are spay/neutered. Meanwhile, we work to find these orphaned dogs a loving, permanent home.*******Please Note: Due to the flooding we have recieved more than our limit on dogs. Please help us find them a home!*******

Our Pal's Place is an incorporated, not-for-profit Pet Adoption Facility and Education Center located in Marietta, GA. Our mission is to find loving, permanent homes for orphaned animals, provide educational services to enhance the lives of our animal companions and promote the positive news about animal welfare. We will do this by working with local shelters and animal rescue organizations to provide food, love, attention and any necessary rehabilitation to orphaned animals while we work with potential adopters to locate the animal companion they are seeking. Baxter

Baxter

Baxter is a sweet shy boy. He was rescued from a hoarding case with a few other. He was really attached to his old owner and is too shy now to interact with others. Baxter hides under his bed when there is anyone in his room. His friend Sami shares a run with him because she is a bit shy too.

Ginger

Ginger

Imagine spending the majority of your life tied to a tree and being bred. Then suddenly being shoved into a wire crate one night and abandoned beside a mailbox on a busy road. How would you feel?! Well, we can tell you how Ginger felt... scared!! We are almost certain that she was abandoned on our property which is against the law by a family who had been threatening to take legal action against us because we had rescued their dog from death in the county shelter and would not return him to them. Legally he was OPP's dog, and as such, we refused to place him in a home where he would be tied to a tree and used for breeding. When the family was forced to move from their home, their female dog was found on our property. We are searching for the family and will take action against them for abandonment. Meanwhile, we are diligently working with Ginger to build her self-confidence. She is doing great!! She is learning to trust people and has a best friend, Storm, with whom she loves to run and play in our fenced yard. It is sad that the bull terriers have such a bad reputation in the mainstream public. If people could just meet bull terriers such as Ginger, they would see the sweet, gentle souls that they truly are. It is the mistreatment by humans that result in any breed being abandoned!

Sherman

Sherman

Shermie!!!Sherman caught the eye of Intake Team member, Cindy Stone. How could he not with that bassett body and bulldog overbite?! Sherman is a hoot...body and personality! You can look at Sherman and see he has had a hard life. Even with the scares left around his neck from the embedded collar and his ribs and backbone showing, Sherman has a sincere appreciation for life and desperately seeks human companionship! We'll make sure he gets it!

Tito

Tito

OPP - as most rescue organizations - receive many stories and lists of animals in county shelters who need help. Tito and his companion were two we'd been hearing about for a while. Their family had lost their home and, consequently, could not care for Tito and his companion. They were both dropped at Cobb County. When OPP was in the county looking at other dogs, one of our intake members, Sandy, saw Tito and commented how much she liked him. Gigi recalled seeing his story and the two agreed it was time for Tito to find a new home. Especially since his companion had just found a new home! We quickly noticed Tito's horrific skin condition which our vet said was caused from an extreme, on-going flea allergy. A dose of K9 Advantix and ongoing fish oil is working and his coat is growing back beautifully! Tito is a sweet guy with a fun-loving personality. He quickly learned "good manners" and the routine at OPP. He sits nicely for treats, meals and to be let out of his run. He needs a home where he can feel secure and know he will never be abandoned again!

Hank

Hank

This cute guy was the popular dog with the Athens County Humane Society volunteers! When they sent the list of dogs who were scheduled to be euthanized, Hank was top of their list, and they pleaded for someone to rescue him. Hank is a fun-loving, sweet dog. His half-tail makes his short body and beautiful brown coat even more adorable.

Lexie

Lexie

Lexie, the star of OPP. Lexie is a beautiful brindle who is fun-loving, energetic and extremely intelligent! One of our volunteers built an agility course at OPP and Lexie was the first to learn the course! She now completes it with ease! She also loves a good game of Frisbee. She loves to run and walk, but needs a strong companion since she is very strong. At our summer camp, Lexie was a favorite with the youth (middle school age - no young children because Lexie is so strong). Lexie does need to be the only four-legged child. While Lexie walks on a leash well with other dogs, she does not need to be housed with other animals. If you are active and want an active companion, please stop by to meet Lexie. We need to get Lexie into her "forever home" very soon! Intelligent dogs like Lexie do not survive well in shelter-like environments. Sniffles

Sniffles

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Sniffles had a really hard life. He was neglected to the extreme. His nose was shot off as well as being shot in the jaw. He had severe heartworms and just about any sickness a doggie can get. Our Pal's Place had no choice but to put him down. We all miss Sniffles very much and he will always be in our hearts. Go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Uf5wpB9kM8 to see Sniffles on the News.

Dixie

Dixie

Animal control officers see a lot of animals pass through the county shelter. So, when they take it upon themselves to find rescue for an animal, we know the animal is extra special! This is the case with Dixie! OPP received an urgent plea from Athens-Clark county to help this sweet girl who had been picked up by animal control with her pups. When we heard her story, she had less than 8 hours to live. Dixie was a great mom to her pups! And, as any great mom would do, Dixie protected her pups from another dog by snapping to get the dog to back off. Problem is this "behavior" though innate - is not acceptable in a county shelter, and Dixie was put into isolation to be released only to a rescue group. As her pups were adopted and taken away, the animal control officer reported that Dixie stood and whimpered. Then she was given a death date. When OPP was contacted, this great mom had less than 8 hours to live. We quickly went to work and found a place for her. Our wonderful volunteers, Wende and Catrina, drove to Athens to get her. Now Dixie needs to find her own home! She is shy at first meeting, but quickly warms up: especially to kids! Please take time to meet this girl!

Lucy and Brinks

Lucy and Brinks

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Lucy and Brinks had a very hard life but not the same a Sniffles. They were dropped off at the pound to be euthanized and we took them in. They were both extreme red collars and only liked two volunteers in our shelter. After a few years, we knew they weren't happy living in a shelter where many people were afraid of them. So we searched and searched and searched online for people who would take them in when we found a man out in Seattle who owns a farm for agressive dogs. O.P.P. had to ship them out to Washington to be with him. Lucy and Brinks fit in just fine; Brinks even became that man's best friend! Sadly one day lucy got sick and we were unaware that she was allergic to her medicine. Lucy passed away but Brinks is still happy as ever almost halfway across the globe.Watch them both on their journey at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuhBQINtISY&feature=related and at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tgzo97r8D8&feature=related

Plato

Plato

Plato was adopted from the Atlanta Humane Society in the summer of 2006 at about 6 months old. The Humane Society stated that he is an Anatolian Shepard / Pointer mix. He weighs about 45 lbs. He is a very loving and VERY loyal companion who just needs attention. He would probably be happiest in a home without young children. He does get along with other dogs, however, he likes to be first in line. Plato has limited vision, but excellent hearing and does not stray far from us. He is house broken, crate trained and does well on a leash. He also responds well to sit, stay and come.

Jessie

Here is Jessie. I went into the shelter on my monthly runs and she was standing there wagging her tail a mile a minute! Once in our facility, she got along great with all the other dogs and even learned a few new tricks! She is around 7 years old but still has a lot of life left in her.
