Profile: My husband and I are firm believers in rescuing shelter dogs and strays. We currently have three rescues, and I personally have had about 14 dogs in my life so far. We've also fostered many a stray, they just seem to find us!

Kayla was found in an alley behind a dumpster at 9 weeks old and we adopted her a week later. We usually rescue older dogs and were leery about a puppy because my husband is disabled, but Kayla has become his physical therapist. He can't say to those brown eyes and that Akita howl when she wants to play ball or chase. Kayla loves to run and play with other dogs, and she adores kids. She greets everyone with kisses and then rolls over and gives her belly. Her nickname is Kiss Kiss Kayla. We have two older dogs but she's our furry "baby".View Profile
Back in 1997 Scully jumped into my brother's truck when he stopped to get his mail. Neither of us could keep her so we gave her away. A year later she came back to me and we've been together ever since. She's estimated to be about 18 years old now, and she's still our amazing flying dog. She runs around the house like a wind-up toy set free, and seems to relish jumping on her two much bigger furry siblings. She loves dogs, cats and kids, but she hates snakes. We live in the desert and in her younger days she killed a few. She also loves to go for rides on a cart we use to tote heavy stuff or on the pool floats. She makes us smile every day, she's our crazy old lady, our Psycho Scully. UPDATE 6/9/14 - Sadly our little Scully passed away after a few weeks struggling with Old Dog Vestibular disease and the fact that she was 20 years old. Hardly a day goes by without us laughing remembering her antics. We miss her greatly, she was one of a kind.View Profile
We adopted Zeus in 2003. The shelter told us he was 3 years old, so that makes him 12 now. He's a little slower and has arthritis, but watch him run when the fridge is opened! We were told that he was afraid of loud noises and thunderstorms, but Zeus isn't afraid of anything except missing a meal. When the storms roll in he wants to be outside jumping in the air trying to catch lightning, so he's aptly named! Zeus loves to play with stuffed animals (i.e. eviscerate them!) but he's very gentle with his canine sisters. He's also very vocal. When he wants something he talks just like Scooby Doo! His favorite foods are pineapple, watermelon and toilet paper! We love our "old man". UPDATE 5/8/2013 - Sadly our Zuuzuu crossed the rainbow bridge at nearly 14 years of age. After a week of suffering with Old Dog Vestibular Disease he caught pneumonia and we had to make that awful decision. Given his age the doctors didn't give us much hope for his recovery so we let him move on. Hopefully we'll see him again someday.View Profile
