Gross

Gross

This is Gross, we found her two weeks into an operation in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. She was covered in fleas and mange and after a few baths (in a local's well) and a few Marines pulling more than a few ticks off her back she was happy as a clam. She was with us for five months as our operation progressed and as time went on she grew bigger and accompanied us on most of our patrols. She was a loyal companion and a great friend to have 7000 miles away from home. After some of the comments I've received I decided to justify her name. "Gross" was given the name after she stumbled into an Afghani house we were holed up at around 1 am. After we found an enormous amount of parasites covering most of her body, one of my comrades-in-arms stated. "SHES GROSS" The name stuck. She is not an American Service Dog, but rather an Afghani Puppy we raised on our own. She never came home with us and the last we heard of her she was sluggin' it out along side the Prince Wales Regiment (U.K.) in Southern Helmand.

Shelby

Shelby was found no more than two weeks old after a deliberate clear of the Taliban stronghold of Marjah, Afghanistan. She accompanied the Marines of 1st Platoon Bravo Company 1st Battalion 6th Marines on countless patrols through the area and not to mention kept some of us warm during those long winter nights. Today she is still operating in the Koru Chareh village in Marjah, dodging IEDs and Gunfire. She's a hell of a dog and will be missed.
