Haley

This is Haley's 3rd visit to the Daily Puppy. She will be 15 at the end of September. Haley is possibly a mix between a Shiba Inu and a Siberian Husky. But, I am not entirely sure as I got her at one year old. She was a bit of a wild girl for quite a long time, pulling and breaking leashes as she was exploring her native Reno, Nevada. Haley especially loves the Truckee River and Idelwild Park, which lies adjacent to the river. Haley has always loved walking and playing in the snow. Haley has always had a bit of a mystical side and she will sit and stare at the river for a very long time in a contemplative way, ignoring anything around, seemingly lost in her thoughts. As one can guess, Haley has slowed down somewhat and now her walks are leisurely and thoughtful, with lots of time to sit and reflect and watch the birds and the the pups. There was one lady at the park who always has loved Haley and dubbed her "The Philospher" for he contemplative gaze. Haley started to slow down a bit too much for my liking, about two years ago. She started sleeping a lot more and her walks were not as long as she used to enjoy. Then, on our walks, we noticed a dog hanging around the neighborhood. After a while, we realized he was a stray. After weeks of seeing the pup run away from anyone who approached even though he was eating the food left out for him at night. Finally, with the local Animal Control officers help, we trapped the little dog. After a week, they decided he was too wild and feral to adopt out, so we brought little Augie Doggie home. We were told he was probably about a year old and may be a Min Aussie Sheperd. No matter, he worked his way into the household, and Haley even decided she would tolerate and then accept him, after quite a bit of encouragement and patience. The great part of bringing home the second dog is that it seemed to give Haley a new lease on life and her spirits and energy grew tremendously and the last two years have been much more spirited and enjoyable for all of us. Haley has had a long life and she has always been loved and cared for and basically has had human companionship almost every hour of her life. The winter is coming here in Reno and soon enough sweet Haley will get a chance to see the snow fall on her beloved Truckee River as both I and Augie Doggie take her for another day in the park today.
