Dakota is an absolute dream. My blended family of 7 (two brothers, two sisters, my parents and myself) was chosen by our local animal shelter to be his new family. Dakota was rescued at 10 months old as he was being abused. It was a big job to maintain his training but it was not hard to love him - that's for sure!! He still suffers from mild separation anxiety but takes his teddy with him everwhere when we're not home. Dakota is so sweet and loving, he refuses to leave anyone alone when they're ill. He must be part fish 'cause he'll roll in puddles on a walk. He loves walks, the car, swimming, socializing with other people, dogs, kids, being anywhere we are and just doing things to make us happy, ie: he picks up the socks that I drop when doing laundry and follows me to the washer - but won't give them to me right away (he needs to wag his tail and do his happy dance first). I must say that he's too smart for his own good. He's figured out how to open the windows in the car and knows when we drive by our favorite coffee shop as his level of excitement increases 10 fold. The ladies at the coffee shop know him by name and save him treats for when we visit. Dakota has been an amazing addition to our family and I encourage everyone to consider adopting from a shelter - you won't regret it!!!!

Charlie is an Akbash (which is closely related to the Anatolian Sheppard & Great Pyrenees) and Saluki mix. He's now 11 months old and has been through a lot in his short life-span. He was rescued by the only animal shelter in the country by people who were breeding him for food. After a lot of work, Charlie still has issues with confined spaces (the car included)and water but he's coming around. He plays with his K-9 buddy Fuji almost every day and loves rawhide bones and his squeaky ball. We recently took Charlie out for a routine walk and 4 wild dogs came out of nowhere to attack me. Charlie stepped in and managed to take two of them down and scared the others away, but has the battle scars to prove it. I've never had such a loyal, caring, amazing dog, and I'm not just saying that because he saved my life!!
